This proposal is brilliant. I'm absolutely enamored by the humanity of these re-imagined characters and the richness of their personalities, motivations, and interactions, even when our view of these characters are limited to what are essentially obituaries. The references to other work on the site are tastefully placed, without disrupting a reader too much who wouldn't be aware of what you were referencing, but still inciting some curiosity. I similarly love a lot of the ways you subverted the 001 expectations throughout this piece.
In a lot of this ways this piece is a great example of the literary current in the site's writing which I love. Sure, the site has been largely defined by its aesthetics, concepts, and intrigue, but none of that means anything without something human under it to tell us about our own lives, our own anxieties or even strange dreams. I really enjoy this piece for honing in on that human, personal element, and I'd love to see more stories with these particular characters in the future.
I'm also a sucker for melancholic or bittersweet pieces. So that. (Feels kind of like a What Remains of Edith Foundation.) There were moments when I felt the subtle atmosphere gave way to a little too much crude gloominess, especially when the little obituaries would end with blunt descriptions of how the council died, but those moments weren't enough to make me less charmed by that heartbreaking ending.

This is fantastic, and I'm glad to see it up on the site. Without any false flattery, I'm gonna go ahead and say this is my favorite 001 out of all the ones I've seen so far. I'm a sucker for the human in stories, and this nails exactly that- making the sweeping scale of the Foundation's universe a backdrop for the people responsible for it.
This one hurt in a good way- Carolynn phrases it better than I could, I think, but I really enjoyed the melancholy feel of the piece, even when it felt a little hammered-in at times. you strike a good balance between conveying emotion and providing intrigue, for lack of a better word, and I'm a very big fan of the format you picked for this. I've always liked stories that give you bits of information about characters through their spaces and belongings, and you knock it out of the park on that here.
Something I feel worth mentioning is the fact that this is one of the few proposals that didn't make me feel lost at any point, which I appreciate a lot. While I know 001s are a form of culmination for the content of the site as a whole, and work as what they are because they draw on the reader's knowledge of other works, I'm not a hugely in-depth reader and it was nice not to feel like I was missing any crucial puzzle pieces for once. So, props on that as well.

Placing the reader in the perspective of O5-13, rounder lets the reader experience all these characters from two perspectives: from within the mind of an O5 member, and from within their own lives. As much fun as it is to hear these stories of past badass characters through the writing of the administrator, what struck me the most was how personal these snapshots were. As someone who has engaged with the wiki on-and-off since 2008, rounder's writing carried a special weight for me as a love letter to all these characters I essentially grew up with and have seen rise and fall in their popularity. Reading about each of their accomplishments without receiving a crosslink to the events, although I did initially want them there, now feels like a nod to all of us that grew with these characters and lived in their journeys. But, like all things, the proposal must end and the old guard must change. Rounder, being a semi-new author on the wiki, represents what I have described to him as the new guard. As much fun as we had with clef, gears, mann, and the rest, the wiki is no longer in that state anymore. Writers have moved on from the character pieces and monster manuals to tell much larger stories. They had their time and its now time to make room for the next big set of writers and readers to see what will happen next. In this way, rounder takes the reader on a stroll through memory lane and, at the end of the path, leaves the reader wondering "what next?" As the administrator admits, "There will never be a group like this again, but that's okay." and it is okay. As if directly addressing the readers who have clung to series 1 and their classic author avatars, rounder invites them to look once more at their 682s, their 173s, and their Dr. Brights, and says "lets go see what else the wiki has to offer together"
I am definitely going to add to my thoughts on this proposal in the coming days, but I really like this proposal in the ways that it extends beyond what is directly stated and uses the fact that we are reading from a specific person's perspective in a fantastic way. I have so many thoughts on this piece and want to express how much this is an amazing proposal
I'm not a fan of the obituary presentation. It's showing us a lot of cool things but telling us about the Overseers in clipped ways that makes their characterization feel superficial, their dialogue unengaging, and doesn't keep me interested in who they actually were as people. The article's biggest problem is its failure to examine the legacy of any of these avatars - how the Senior Staff's lives and deaths affect the people, Foundation, and lore they leave behind. Without any critique of how these characters changed site lore, in-universe or out, the copious references to said lore are little more than cheap winks and nudges.
the presentation in obituary form is in service to the piece's theme of looking back on the past, and imo, is probably the best way to characterize them while keeping with the themes of the piece. though a lot of the dialogue didnt land for me for different reasons, i do think the obituary presentation is the best way to go thematically.
I have to agree with ARD here. I feel like this proposal is trying to get me to care about a bunch of shallow versions of big-name Foundation characters. The most novel thing it does is give some characterization to Bijhan, but that's not enough to save it for me.
God damn. I've spent the past year or so complaining about how you can't really sink your teeth into many of the newer articles on the site. They just don't present the appropriate depth that got my into the site in the first place. Then, you post the teeth-sinkiest article I've ever seen on the site. It's juicier than a well-done steak, and it's not just length for the sake of length. There's an electrifying voltage here that I felt for at least 80% of the article. It combines a view of fourteen of the most important characters on the site with snippets of a history that's coldly entertaining. There's genuinely more depth and polish here than 90% of djkaktus' articles. In addition, there are some just genius lines I wouldn't expect anyone else to come up with ("Could make anything except for happiness"). It would be a crime against humanity for me not to upvote it.
That being said, this isn't top ten or top twenty for me. As much as I hate to say this, I like Wrong's Proposal better than this one. That one definitely focuses more on history than character, but the voltage there just felt more engaging than this. There are definitely a few places where you lost me, O5-12's entry being the one that sticks out in my mind.
That being said, this was the easiest +1 I've given in months. Good work.
Honestly, I can't really get with this one. The sort of melancholy, sad feeling is definitely there, but ultimately it feels like I'm looking at a shadow of these characters that doesn't make me really show their personality. The only person that feels like they get any sort of real, meaningful characterization is the Administrator, but even then it feels sort of weak and not much beyond "I am old and tired". The writing here's honestly really good, but the characterization and main thing that it feels like I'm supposed to care about is just lacking.
I have to reiterate what others have said on this thread. Compared to other 001 proposals, this feels really down to earth and personal, and I am here for it. While not my favourite proposal, it's definitely up there. +1
