Thanks to claygolem, EstrellaYoshte, Grigori Karpin and Ralliston for their crit!

This was supposed to be titled "The Namesake," but I just had to open my big mouth to Grigori and mention that I was tempted to call it "The Namesnake," and then he wouldn't let me back off on it. If a pun passes Grigori's filter, I know it must be good.

Neither Dr. Michael Nass, who is fictional, nor HarryBlank, which is a pseudonym, wrote the Wikipedia article on Tiamat. That was, however, actually a quote from it, which can be found (in the lede, amusingly enough) here.

I really love the back and forth in this, giving us a window into the sort of disputes are bound to happen with in universe classifications and what not… They MUST as people are always arguing about it IRL so it follows that they would do so in the actual Foundation.

But mostly I just like that there's an excuse for the wordplay concerning the naming or "classification" of this snake goddess.

As always, ends on a terrific pay off one-liner

I enjoyed the in-universe parallel to some of the writing advice on the wiki, and the style it was done in was really fun to read!

Thanks, I just kept thinking of more and more things like that, and every time I thought "someone's gonna call me on all these inside jokes" I also thought "who fucking cares, I like it." And then nobody did call me on it, so I guess occasionally, in selected circumstances, I think the right thing.

I really like the interactions between Brenda and Tiamat, but the in universe commentary between the two scientists needs to be redone. It starts flat and is only hurt more by how much time you spend lampshading your own esoteric class. The payoff that each argument makes the goddess more real is only made less satisfying as a result, especially because those arguments keep interrupting the interviews. You should refocus their debate on some aspect of 5866 that actually feels worth arguing about and reinforcing in universe; it would make the jailbreak more cathartic and could even give me something to remember about Brenda’s colleague.

I'll think about it; I don't see a need personally, although the approach you're suggesting certainly has merit. I honestly think it's teetering on the edge of being freighted with too much character as it stands, since people weren't getting what Brenda's deal was and I had to really emphasize it. I think the structure will start to creak if I put anything else on, and I don't want to take anything off. I certainly respect your opinion on this, though, and I will give it some thought.
