It's November 15th. The world is getting colder. Snow is beginning to grace the ground. Thanksgiving is soon. Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, Yule, and a whole assortment of other holidays are soon to follow. But first, we have our own, special, SCP only holiday to celebrate. It's actually a whole festival, that starts today, and ends on Dec. 29th. It's called…
The SCP Holiday Art Exchange~!
(hosted by DarkStuff with his lovely assistant,
Elogee FishTruck)
The Overview
Hold up, what is this?
Glad you asked! This is an annual event on the SCP wiki in which people exchange gifts, Secret Santa style! The giftee doesn't know who their gifter is until several days after receiving the gift itself, and everyone gets to have a ton of fun making other people happy and being made happy.
Hmm, what kind of gifts can be exchanged?
Gifts can be anything that can be given over the internet, but, due to the community, are most often writing, visual art, or some other kind of media that can be given with a link! Though optional, plenty of the gifts exchanged during the art exchange are later posted as tales or SCPs on the site, or posted onto the respective art pages of the gifting artists.
Y'know, that's pretty neat, I'm in! How do I join?
Glad to have you on board! You can participate by responding to this thread with this format:
What I Can Give:
What I Am Looking For:
And of course fill in after the colons with the respective information. Before you do, however, let me impart onto you some wisdom that has been learned from previous years… don't, I repeat, don't put that you'd be "alright with anything" in the What I Am Looking For section! You may think that you are being considerate and making the process easier, but this, in fact, is one of the hardest wishes to fulfill, because your giftee will be directionless! Please make it something more specific than that. And speaking of rules…
Don't sign up if you are iffy on being able to make the deadlines, laid out below!
This art exchange runs on a schedule. You will be expected to have a gift ready to turn in by the deadline. If you're unsure you can make that, it'd be best to abstain for this year. That said, if something unexpected comes up in the over-a-month between now and then, we get it and will not blame you. If such a thing were to occur, you have two options:
- Send in an unfinished gift at the deadline with the promise of finishing it later, or…
- Contact us! Send either me or
Elogee FishTruck a PM as soon as possible, and we'll get a pinch-hitter on it right away, no harm no foul. More on that later!
The Schedule
First, a brief overview.
Nov. 15th - Nov. 28th — Gathering participants.
Nov. 30th - Dec. 22nd — Making the gifts.
Dec. 23rd - Dec. 24th — Pinch-hitting.
Dec. 25th - Dec. 28th — Receive gifts, guess at giftees.
Dec. 29th — Revealing the Secret Santas.
Anytime after Dec. 29th — Optional posting of gifts to the wiki.
Now, something more in-depth:
Pinch-Hitting & Friendly Reminders
About being a pinch-hitter.
Pinch-hitters are the people who have from Dec. 23rd to Dec. 24th to create a gift for giftees who have absentee gifters. You may have more than this amount of time if a gifter reveals they won't be able to make it some time before the deadline, but worst case (and most likely) scenario, you will have 48 hours to create (or make headway into) a gift, which means…
Don't become a pinch-hitter unless you are very confident in your ability! On top of that, I may refuse you as a pinch-hitter if I don't think you can do it. Harsh, I know, but the only way I can be confident in you is if you're known and I know you (or you can be vouched for). It's all in the aid of getting everyone gifts they can be happy with, on-time. If you would like to be a pinch-hitter, simply say so at the bottom of your post you make on this thread.
Final, friendly reminders!
- Don't ghost the exchange. Please, if you can't make it, send a PM beforehand.
- It's called Secret Santa! Don't reveal yourself to your giftee, and if you know something, don't let anyone in on it! Secrecy is part of the fun!
- Keep it jolly and festive! Don't intentionally make a gift that goes against the giftee's wishes, or otherwise knowingly make something bad.
- Oh, and no smut please. The content on this site can definitely end up in the NSFW zone, but very few people are here for erotica, and last year there was an issue with that, so we're making it a rule!
Alright, with all of that out of the way…
