The GLORIOUS Hexagon

Pedagon 03 Oct 2020 22:03

Looks like it survived!

I want to give a huge shoutout to my canon2020 team members Placeholder McD, Tyumen, and Its a Bad Idea for being the most supportive and helpful team I have ever been a part of. This tale would not have been any level of quality if not for the brilliance of Placeholder McD's eye for design and Tyumen's magical ability to make dialogue feel natural and alive.

I hope you enjoyed reading it as much as I enjoyed writing it!

With every step this team takes in our series, I'm consistently blown away by everyone else's dedication, writing prowess, and creativity. I sincerely thank Pedagon, Placeholder McD, and Its a Bad Idea for letting me be a part of this! Please enjoy this fantastic tale.

Shouldn't this be tagged audio as well, as it contains music.

I thought the same, but the last few times I've followed my gut with tagging, I've ended up making mistakes, so I was inclined to leave it to staff. Now that you've confirmed my intuition here, I've tagged it as such :D

First of all, let me say that I’m surprised how much I’m enjoying your team’s submissions. When you told me you were writing for AIAD, I was sorta hesitant… “how could they make AIs interesting characters?”

I’m really glad I stuck it out and have y’all a shot because I’m loving the characterization on evidence (despite again these being AIs, none of these stories have felt the expected atonality I was afraid of)

Anyway, this is my favorite from your team so far. CORE is genuinely a creepy antagonist to set up, and I’m excited to see where y’all go from here.

Also, freaking love the animated talking heads of the various AIs, good shit.

I'm less enthused about this one than the others, but it's cemented my opinion that the tales for this series are muuuch better suited for the dialogue scheme you have going than the flat prose. The language is kind of…. dense, for lack of a better word. It's thick, it uses a lot of words and adjectives to say not a lot. The dialogue, on the other hand — I called it very Marvel-esque in the last article, but I think that actually suits it for tales, just not skips. The character interactions are fun when a) they're not feeling out of place in an intense SCP b) when you're not sifting them out through over-florid prose. I'm also really liking SHODAN CORE as a villain. Very big and unknowable.

The ending with Hedwig called to mind sexual assault, complete with skin crawling dread and a tight knot in my stomach. Upvoted for playing that emotional chord so well, without resorting to shock.
