This is creepy shit, right here. Groovy in every way, eh.

A suggestion, though; you might want to take out the first reference to the person being turned into a "bone hive," the process doesn't really seem like a catchy name.

Actually, it would work much better if, instead of capitalising it, you put it in quotation marks (like I just did there).

Well the insect probably goes through the food pipe from the esophagus into the trachea and from there on into the lungs…

Because it's creepy. As for actual, scientific reasons — who knows? A lot of the things here don't make immediate scientific sense, as we understand science. There's probably a good reason, but it's hardly obvious.

I imagine it's a response to depleted local resources. The containment protocol suggests that perhaps a well-fed colony might continue to function through multiple generations of queens; there's no indication that the contained bone hive needs to be replaced on a regular basis, just kept fed. The insects might even leave more of the brain and other sense organs intact in that case too since they wouldn't need to use them.

Personally I think that'd be far more creepy, there'd be no definite escape in sight for the poor hive if it's stuck in a particularly favorable hiding spot. But I generally prefer non-death outcomes so perhaps that's just me. :)

Maybe it wasn't the case in May, but now the text leaves it clear that not only the colony is burst open, killing workers and drones in the process, the warriors wander away, presumably leaving the colony unprotected(btw, new layer of creepy here: now the hive is immobile, alive and probably an easy target for predators and scavengers while still alive. Egads!)

This would make more sense if the colony produced more than one queen at a time, as real insect colonies do.

I wonder if it might improve this article to add a bit about the insects' behavior in the wild. Given that human beings appear to play such an important role in its life-cycle, the relationship would have to have evolved over the course of thousands of years at LEAST. How aware are people in the insects' habitat of it - does it play into local folklore? What keeps it confined to that region? Have there been "outbreaks" - and what is the Foundation doing to prevent one?

one of the things I like is the fact that we have no idea how long these bugs have been doing this. They may have been evolving like this for millions of years, they may be extraterrestrial in origin, or they may be an escaped genetic experiment. Who knows?

I think the reason only one has been found so far is because as frightening as they are, the bugs are pretty fragile. They don't swarm or have appreciable toxins, they aren't very tough and they're very picky about habitat. Location is important for narrative plausibility because they need an area where victims are plentiful but not prone to seeking medical assistance. A doctor sees a bug in your chest, he's gonna take it out.
