Mea culpa for this taking so long.

Thanks for putting this all together!
And if the whole world is crashing down… fall through space out of mind with me.

I wanna see these NicoNico videos done of us now.
I noticed that the suggestion "Better search function" is listed as "things that we can't really change/fix/improve, as they're based on limitations cooked into Wikidot's architecture". A lot of sites have a special Google Search embedded in the site, and I know that it's better for finding things here than Wikidot's search :-X Maybe we could do that somehow? The only thing it's missing is distinguishing between pages and forums, but Wikidot sucks at that too :-P
Other than that, this is all really great! Thank you!!
Is the complaint that older members shouldn't get away with more, or that they should?

Erm, staff???
Are these members from the community or just guests?
:D
Those are people who answered the survey put out across all social media sites and SCP wikis of various languages.
Also; we can't stop them reading the pages, just from joining and commenting on them. I believe you don't have to join our site to read the forums, all you have to do is join WikiDot.
You don't even have to join Wikidot to read the forums!
Is it possible to correlate this data? Just seeing the responses that correlate with the 694 respondents who vote and/or comment on the main wiki would be interesting.
It's possible, but I'd have to spring for the professional membership with the survey site, which is something like $100/year.

Thanks for all the work that went into this. When I joined this site about a hundred (6) years ago, it was after hearing about it through a Something Awful GBS forum thread. That once well-moderated forum has gone all wonky, but SCP continues to maintain high standards both in content and in forum/comment thread interaction, and the mods definitely deserve a huge chunk of credit for that. Balancing high standards and a welcoming, nurturing, creative vibe is not easy. I love this place. Here's to another hundred (or whatever) years!
These are some of the points I'm taking away:
How did you first discover the SCP Foundation?
Referred by someone you know | 529 |
Seriously guys, kudos on you. Recruitment is hard, damn hard. But it's essential in keeping this place alive, especially considering that the days of CB advertising is winding down. Keep it up guys!
Which of the following do you do?
Read articles on the main wiki | 2765 |
Vote &/or comment on the main wiki | 694 |
That said, getting people to join might be a tad harder. Granted, the screening process in place is important. I don't think I'd want to be staff anymore if we didn't have it in place. Though, it does bring up questions as to how to increase the number of people from just readers to full fledged members. Also, special shout out to the lurkers who just vote!
"I've seen some of the discussion threads on 05, and I think you guys like to extend your arguments way too much."
I blame this entirely on thedeadlymoose, though to be fair he has been getting better.
If you could change ONE thing about the wiki, what would it be?
Way to "favorite" something | 4 |
Actually, I really wish there was a way to do this. Putting on future improvements list because… damn… that's a fantastic idea.
Night mode | 10 |
Make color scheme less white/bright | 28 |
As I type this with the brightness turned all the way down while sitting in bed… yyyyeah. I'm actually gonna try and see if this option is even doable because I believe it could be.
There's more stuff here that's great too that I'll continue to absorb. Great survey overall.
I'm happy to see that the community as a whole seems to either be quite happy with the way things are, or are asking for only minor changes that wouldn't change much.
However, I had to tilt my head and squint a bit when I noticed that three people wanted "trigger warnings" on a horror writing site. …What? I mean, I'm all for safe spaces and everything, but there are a lot of places on the Internet that (if that's what you're looking for) just aren't really going to be a good fit for you.
Anyway, I'm glad that 99+% of the site seems to be pretty happy with the way things are, and mostly seem to want cosmetic tweaks over anything else. Looks like the mods/admins are managing pretty well!
There's a difference between content warnings and trigger warnings, I have PTSD and I still enjoy horror as a genre, but I do prefer not to be surprised by gunfire and explosions. It isn't unreasonable for somebody to still want to enjoy horror stories while avoiding specific common traumatic triggers.
Whether it is feasible here given the format is debatable, but the request in and of itself isn't unreasonable.
Isn't there a content warning project on Tumblr? I know it started up, but I don't know how it's gone since then.
HELLO YES I made a content warning blog on tumblr but there's nothing on it yet because 1) I'm super busy and 2) I'm super lazy oops
The biggest issue with it though has been getting help from people who have the time to help. It's at scp-cw-project.tumblr.com but like I said, no content yet.
Have a collapsible named trigger warning, inside of which are basic specific "trigger tags" such as gunfire or stuff. I believe that would prevent spoilering and stuff.
I like this idea! I've also heard talk of having a separate TW wiki with copies of all the articles, plus warnings at the top of each article. Possibly more work, but not a bad idea.
Something like this was being organized on a tumblr blog by ghostchibi, but it's fallen to the wayside. I'll let them know there's still interest!
I don't think its a feasible thing to impliment on this site, but I can relate to the sentiment.
Thanks to an early childhood spent hanging out a lot at the veterinarian's office my mom worked at and years of anatomy study I have an extremely high tolerance for anatomy-related horror. Once you've seen a few cattle dehornings, compound fractures, and spayings, and then spent several thousand hours drawing people and animals with no skin, it takes something on the level of Saw or SCP-2401 to make you cringe.
Add that to a love of horror, and to me things like roughhewn cyborgs, extreme mutants, and well-used zomibies are more "fascinating" than "nightmare inducing". I love painting really messed up realistic anatomy.
I also, however, have a near-eidetic visual memory and there are a lot of things that I really, really wish I could unsee. (Never again will I click on a link to 4chan. Ever.) So typically I warn people as a general courtesy when I post something on the farther ends of "crimes against nature" scale, because I know that I'd like the same warning sometimes.
