This has the setup for some excellent historical fiction, the tone and feel of the July Monarchy are all here and the objects feel like they belong in place. That being said, I feel like this could make better use of its premise. The letters are okay but they all kind of feel like they're retreading the same territory even if they're adding stuff, just in how they're written.
The last log doesn't have the punch I think was intended. It all just goes a little too fast, Dr. Forrester isn't given any chance to have chemistry with Dr. Golzar, and while there was some setup in the notes Forrester wrote the last log is too fast it's not giving them any room to breathe.
I'm upvoting, as I think the good outweighs the bad and I did enjoy reading it, but I found this to be underwhelming. But despite that, after reading it I felt inspired to build on what was written here. Makes me wonder what would happen if Lord Blackwood met the Orleanist Sarkic Cults…
