Suffice it to say, this got me thinking. Thanks so much to Westrin and Researcher Sparrow for their kind critting of the draft for this article on Discord!

So, the Foundation accidentally released an elder god. Or did they?

A few things to consider:

• Either 5959 or 5959-B is lying. The Foundation has no idea which.
• We don’t know the truth either, although an educated guess can be made.

Uh, i really like this one. Church of the Second Hytoth meets Antimemes. In Space!

There is only on thing that bothers me: why would they think about calling this Neutralized?
We know of atleast one still-anomalous thing being out there (-B), and the main anomaly still appears to be somewhat functional (throwing off error messages and being antimemetic).

Anyway, this is great work, you deserve more upvotes.

First of all: I really appreciate that you enjoyed this so much! I was a little iffy about mixing those two topics, and I'm glad I managed to execute it well. Second of all, you have a point there- I think I'll tweak the end a bit to reflect that the skip isn't really gone. Thanks for the tip!

Hey, whilst making a translation of your SCP, i found another small numeric oddity: 5959 is supposed to measure about 110 x 80 m (which lacks a dimension, btw), yet it easily can manifest 70 m broad crevasses or hills with damaging falls and has enough gravity to keep Orpheus in orbit?
Could it be you've meant kilometers? The number's don't add up elseway.

EDIT: I see you tried to fix it, but turning it into km² wasn't what i meant. (You just described a 4 dimensional surface).
A 3D object has length, height and width, three measurments. 110 x 80 is lacking the third.

Well that was pretty incredible! The ending has me a little weirded out, though; the entire Freya log is essentially a bunch of gods screaming and pleading with the Foundation to turn back, and you're expecting it to be a story about the Foundation poking an antimemetic bear with a stick to see what happens. But then the Foundation doesn't suffer at all at the end because this thing just wanted to… see the stars?

I really like the escalation in the Freya logs and I really like the idea of something escaping a cosmic prison to live amongst the stars, but those feel like two different narratives.

But I can ignore that slight objection. An easy +1!

You see, that's the thing. We have all this build-up, the entire asteroid pleading with the Foundation to turn back. Whatever's in there is clearly bad news. And then when this thing escapes, all it wants to do is see the stars?

One of them is lying.

Either -B was imprisoned wrongly, forgotten and trapped alone for who knows how long in a maddening, chaotic hellscape when all it wanted was to see the stars, or it's going to majorly fuck things up for the universe and just doesn't want the Foundation to know. And we have no idea which is true.

There’s also the potential that it doesn’t care about the Foundation, and is merely going for those who imprisoned it first as an act of vengeance before going about doing what it was doing before it’s imprisonment. Whether it was exploring the universe, destroying things, or worse, we have no clue whatsoever.

It had a difficult time holding my attention at first, (probably a problem on my end, though), until I read these comments and pieced all the seemingly-arbitrary pieces together.

I intrinsically find the idea of two people telling conflicting super interesting, and, given the aforementioned problem on my end, find myself thinking through both possible scenarios a lot, trying my damnedest to piece together which one is lying.

In the GOI Ranking Survey, there was a comment made about CotSH that I have similar sentiments about:

They have a lot of potential I feel but I have yet to see THE article on them that makes me fall in love with them.

I really like SCPs that are big objects in space and this is one of those. The idea of a sort of living asteroid prison that disguises itself with anti-memes is really cool. The end with the prisoner being freed and flying away was a nice change of pace instead of some ultra evil humanity destroying god suddenly popping out - I hope that 5959-B wasn't lying and is now happy to just chill out in space.

Maybe there is Tale potential here about a second mission, or something from the perspective of -B?

A second mission would be interesting to write. I’ve had some ideas circulating in my head recently thanks to Departmentcon, especially the Department of Interstellar Containment series. There’s no guarantee I’ll ever do anything with them though, so if you have ideas of your own, go wild!

This was really intriguing. I like the idea that there was an antimemetic prison for something floating around in Space. It just feels logical, and I like how little the Foundation does here except accidentally freeing the thing. They are an outsider, and it really shows. I also like that there is this ambivalency between what is true and what isn't that also permeates this piece, especially at the end. It further enforces this notion.

Overall, this was really interesting. +1~
