This one's actually kinda neat.
Makes you wonder about that "black" entry. Something about SCP-682 maybe?
Well, don't let any SCP computer viruses get near this thing…
Whoops, that's what I get for trying to be more sciency. Fluids expunged (ew).
Since black is all colours combined, I was thinking more along the lines of 'pure' information (though that might be more appropriate for white). We must have some sort of information-based creature in the SCPs, surely? If not, then maybe I've found my next idea. I'll leave it up to you to decide what the black actually is, of course.
Well, it actually has to make physical contact with another computer to transfer information, so it wouldn't be that worrying. For digital data at least it's probably more unwieldy than transferring it normally.
I still say it should be kept at a site where no memetic SCPs are kept at. (especially the sound-based ones!)
If it weren't for the instantaneous evaporation (which… seems kind of pointless to me, I guess) this would make an awesome spy tool. Two small vials of 535-1, lined with Telekill, one of which has been pre-loaded with a variety of informational/memetic contagions, and the other of which is empty. Use the second to store information for retrieval, and use the first to clear out computers and personnel behind you.
For that matter… it sounds unlikely that schizophrenia or neural disorders would result for information that originated from the same person, as the fringe connections would be identical. (Transmission from person to person would be difficult because the various thoughts are all connected to various other memories, constituting a completely different personality, while redeposition into the same person would result in the memories overlapping and matching up with minimal psychological trauma.) Keep an extra vial around for dumping information into for the agent's personal retrieval as necessary, and a neuralyzer or equivalent for erasing the agent's memory afterwards. Ideal for memory gambits. Pictures an unintimidating SCP Agent cornered by the Chaos Insurgency, pouring a white flask on his head, and announcing "I Know Kung Fu"
How does 535-1 work when tested in connection with SCP-028?
I have a stupid question.
If you have a guy (brain) using a computer (digital) with a floppy in the drive (magnetic) to listen to some MP3s (sound) and set 535 next to the manufacturer's logo (physical image), what does the 535-1 look like? Does it just pick one, or is it swirly, or what?
I think I'm geable to answer that question. Since it says "whenever it comes within one meter", and the data type appears to be fixed upon setting, it seems like it should be the closest one/ the first one to come within a meter.
I'm calling for a review of this article. Please read it, vote, and comment if you haven't already done so.
I kinda like this one, but it's all buildup without a good payoff. The bits where it transfers information, while being slightly clunky by modern standards, got me interested in the article and wanting to see where it'd go with the concept. But then it just gives you schizophrenia, which is very anticlimactic. If something more was done with the concept, this would be amazing.
Whether you like it or not, history is on our side. We will bury you!
Agreed. Experiment logs on this SCP could be an interesting read.
This reminds me of that beehive skip that got posted the other day, but I like the potential of this more. I agree with Roget: it needs a bit more payoff than mental illness, and I personally would like to see more of a hint behind the final liquid.
I'm curious what happens with "electronic ink" devices (exempli gratia a Kindle). Does it treat it as digital, or ink?
