PITCHBLACK

The Foundation's intelligence and communications network is, bar none, the most advanced monitoring network ever. It's backed with redundant systems, air-gapped servers, and enough support personnel to fill multiple dedicated Sites. So what happens when it goes dark?

EDIT (2021/02/27): After a long time of feeling personally underwhelmed with the ending, I have replaced it with a different one I feel is more satisfying.

The technobabble and the dialogue aren’t bad, but I can’t help but feel that SCUTTLE is far more effective at mixing the frustration of broken technology with the sheer terror of broken Foundation technology.

this reads as if it were written by someone who has experienced a similar event before, which I don't doubt knowing aismallard's background. the characterization and technobabble really sold this for this me, as i never felt completely lost in it as i do in most other instances. i also really like the concept of a blackout in site communications. very well done overall.

As others have said, this article does a solid job of keeping the technobabble from being incomprehensible nonsense. I was able to get a good grasp of what the techies here were up to, and the implied technologies being used were fascinating, especially the potential for literal computer wizards at ICSUT. Additionally, the note at the end was particularly satisfying, as it lets us know who pulled the trigger on the outage, but raises several more questions for the reader to ponder.

All in all, a good SCP article. +1.
