Use a D-class personnel for the addendum, and maybe just put it like
ADDENDUM XXX-XX/X: (title here) instead of the current stuff. But hey, it's a good start!
Why use a D-Class? It's obviously the report of some poor sap who got exposed before the Foundation grabbed it.
What counts as a "character"?
What happens if an exposed person is given, for instance, a book of limericks?
There once was a man from Nantucket / who kept all his cash in a bucket / but his daughter named Nan ran away with a man / and he fell over and choked and died
or a children's joke book?
why did the chicken cross the road?
halfway across the road, it fell over and choked and died.
What happens if an afflicted subject writes something about himself and then reads it back?
Oh, and what happens if you're watching a video of someone dying in a different way? Like, footage of Christine Chubbuck or Budd Dwyer?
This thing is really odd… and I like that! The lack of information about the item's background also helps, in my opinion - I can't stop wondering where is has come from and why.
Also like this, and amused at the use of Clash of Kings.
Isn't it a general principle that there should never be expungement in the Contaiinment Protocols? Since this thing is Euclid instead of Safe, that means there's a reason we can't just shut it in a safe and keep it protected. Why do the guards have to use lethal force?
Things I'm wondering about:
1) What happens if a subject starts reading a long novel right at the beginning? After all the characters die, do the rest of the pages appear to be blank? Or are the hundreds of pages giving detailed descriptions of their decomposing corpses?
2) What if the story has characters that don't need to breath, like the undead or androids? Or the story is set in the afterlife? Hmmm, maybe the story becomes about how everyone in Heaven spends the rest of eternity choking, with no way to end their suffering.
3) If the subject read a pamphlet on, say, how to deal with the loss of a child, would it be perceived to say something like "Don't worry, you'll soon be joining your child in death"?
I think it's similar to Fred in that it requires some sort of narrative. 583 subjects can still read, for instance, dictionaries and phone books.
Hmmm, so if a math textbook has a math "word problem" involving people, it might change into something like "figure out how long it takes for Pat's corpse to hit the ground after falling from the roof of a 100m tall building".
3) If the subject read a pamphlet on, say, how to deal with the loss of a child, would it be perceived to say something like "Don't worry, you'll soon be joining your child in death"?
A second-person test would certainly be disturbing.
On a side note, a recursive test of this would be interesting:
Okay, so I'm reading that they're keeping the tape in a heavy-duty safe thing. Then it says, "Any level-3 personnel or higher have access to the safe, but they're all dead anyways, so who cares." That's an odd thing to put in the containment procedures.
The person in the passage above starts talking about keeping some tape in a safe. They start quoting something, but then the handwriting gets sloppy and they say "help i can't breathe". Was he okay?
etc.
if your reading this your gay
What if you watched this tape, wrote a story about 682 and its subsequent/inevitable demise, and then fed the story into SCP-826?
Probably about the same thing that happened the last time we crossed 682 and 826…
What about other SCPs that aren't inherently indestructable, like Able? Or Cain? Or Clef?
Abel? He'd choke and die. Then return back to the coffin until such time he starts wandering around like he does.
Cain or Clef? They'd choke and die… Then quickly get resuscitated by Foundation personnel, and if you were LUCKY some security agent would find out you were dicking around with Euclid materials against Foundation top agents and blow your head off before the victim figured it out and tracked you down.
With Cain, wouldn't you choke and die? And with Able, this seems like a pretty damn good method of killing him without any chance of failure. It's better than the bomb necklace, isn't it? He can't take it off.
SCP-826 doesn't rewrite reality, it just allows people to interact with the contents of a story. I don't see how this plan would work at all.
