As per the contest rules, this page allows staff to upload my entry, as I won't be around to do so during the submission period.

Until they do, everyone will just have to put up with blank space.

Please don't vote before the competition period starts!

Loved this in the draft stage, love it now. Blank space as propulsion residue is great, finding nothing at the edge of the universe is also great. More SCPs like this, please.

Ayup, this is pretty great. Although I personally preferred it when the last line was "WE ARE ALONE" - a little cliche, perhaps, but got the message across. But there's something a little optimistic about "I WILL SEARCH ON". Anyway, +1.

Pros:

• The development of this article is interesting and I do like the buildup.
• Interesting usage of blank space to incorporate your concepts in.

Cons:

• I still think the last note is borderline cliche and reminds me of Doctor Who tropes.

I don't much like the last line either - but I still love this piece to pieces and always will. As stated in the draft comments, a story about too much paper for a short works contest is a stroke of genius; and I picture that words on blank space = worlds in empty space, and this is even more genius.

I find this article really, really good. I would have liked it more if the last line ended with an ellipsis, but its a personal taste.

Cute, though "it's affecting the article" was a little predictable. You took it the extra step with that documentation, though, so upvote.

Thanks all for the kind comments. Many thanks to Scantron, Dr Hysteria, Eta Carinae, Agent MacLeod, Dr Leonard, sirpudding, Decibelles, manofdoom and weizhong for encouragement and feedback on the draft.

I agree that the last line (and the whole final note) is difficult. I had many different versions, as those on the forums can attest, and this one was last minute, and arguably a change of tack.

I almost cut the whole note for a downer final addendum that noted that the creation of white space had slowed to a stop. On balance, I think I prefer Dr Harper still out there, searching.
