Agree with Bright, but other than that, it's pretty good.
I'm trying to picture why a large submarine can't negotiate the bended area of space. wouldn't the submarine just bend in its geometry as space itself is bending, not the submarine? ie, doesn't that just mean that 1cm on the starboard side is more than 1cm on port while going through the entrance?
or does it get structural failure?
Now this is a fine Euclid, right here. Wouldn't say Keter, but definitely a good Euclid.
Spacial-anomaly herring. How delightfully fanciful.
What was being broadcast from the sub, by the way? If there was a video feed, a description of that would be nice. Perhaps the last horribly distorted view of a submarine crew being raped to death by the very material of time and space would be sufficiently frightening, eh.
"Despite preying upon one another, all fish in the school work together."
and
"The entrance to the bended area of space is too large for submarines to enter (though large enough for human divers to enter)."
Wait, what?
Point #1
Basically, imagine a pack of dogs. They infight absolutely all the time. But when they have a common enemy, they all fight together. This is on a larger scale, though, and the infighting is actually neccessarry for the inner ones to survive.
Point #2
Basically, imagine trying to stick something through a hole too small for it. Sure, you can squeeze it and it'll still fit through, but it may come out damaged on the other side.
I think the problem Yoric is pointing out in Point #2 is "too large for submarines to enter."
Perhaps the ecosystem as a whole functions as a self-sustaining organism that responds to attacks, even as its "organs" feed on each other?
Does 850 fluctuate in size (externally, of course) or remain about the same size?
"Camera footage shows the ship being torn apart and flooded with water by large teeth."
How about changing that to "Camera footage shows the ship being torn apart by large teeth and flooded with water."
UAVs are smaller than humans. I really doubt the Foundation would have trouble making an elastic one to make it even stronger. There's no good reason why the submarine has to be built piece by piece.
If you did build it piece by piece underwater, I doubt it would be water tight. This wouldn't be a problem if you're wearing scuba gear, but the quote wouldn't make any sense.
I'd call this safe. It won't harm you unless you threaten it. It can escape containment easily, but that won't make it any easier for the public to find it.
So it's a school of herring that's several miles in diameter, and in the center of this insanely large school of fish is an area that "bends space". Maybe exactly what that means should be elaborated on? Saying it "bends space" doesn't help me much, even if everyone else here is a genius and can figure it out without help. XD I mean, at a guess, I'd say it warps distances between things, but that doesn't really explain why the fish closer to the center turn into a completely different species…and besides, considering that this is the SCP Foundation, it could mean almost literally anything. A little more explanation would be nice. Still upvoted. :)
Yeah, "bends space" doesn't sound like the exact proper wording for what the situation is.
All area that has been observed does contain water.
Does anyone else have a problem with that sentence? It doesn't read right in my head, or at least could be smoother.
Also, also, submarine bit is interesting, though seems to rush to the destruction of it. Plenty of creepy and cool things to find in this compacted ocean inside a school of fish I would think. Even more so than a giant monster!
I'm digging the concept, but some of the wording is really awkward. No vote for now.
And if the whole world is crashing down… fall through space out of mind with me.
This would really benefit from some expansion. It has a great setup, but little payoff.
We have a space (or even time/space anomaly, as far as we know) inside a school of fish.
Is the anomaly just there, and the fishes are somehow attracted by it, or is it created, or contained, by the fishes?
Does it move?
