A joke article regarding image use both in- and out-of-universe. Thanks goes to Sooperrandomname for critiquing, and a few randos on the SCP Unity Discord for supporting the idea.

I'd also like to thank Rokurokubi, who not only is writing a Japanese translation of this article, but managed to extract the necessary forum formatting from SCP-3309, as well as spotting numerous tiny formatting errors which had slipped into the final article.

Most images (See reply by C-Dives) used in the article itself are in the public domain. Exact sources can be found below:

The "Missing image" from the final collapsible is taken from SCP-231.

The linked image is, to my knowledge, not licenced under Creative Commons, and thus isn't displayed in the article itself.

Licensing Problems

All images used in the article itself are in the public domain.

Uh, actually, there are two exceptions. And at least one of them is not compliant with CC-BY-SA 3.0.

• Locus-248-J is CC BY-SA 4.0 ("File:Pub, Interior.jpg", posted by Serial Number 54129). I still firmly believe all CC 4.0 images should be non-compliant with this site (as it's under CC 3.0), but I'm not here to discuss about this problem.

• Bottle cap used in "Photoshopped" image is from Pexels, which switched its license from CC0 to "Pexels License" since 2018/07/05. This license has prohibited to "redistribute or sell the photos on other stock photo or wallpaper platforms"— this is not compatible with CC BY-SA 3.0, which has allowed image redistribution and commercial use. Apparently the author (Brett Jordan) posted this image on 2019/07/25, so it's clearly under Pexels License.

Brett Jordan uploaded this on 2011, under CC BY 2.0.

CC 4.0, as I know it, will be provisionally allowed on the wiki.

I saw this on the draft forums and was excited to see this actually made. It’s clever, well executed, and effectively satirizes common tropes seen throughout the wiki. +1, good job

I actually like this. The joke here isn't too in-your-face or too goofy, and the meta aspect of the article works well because it's delivered through in-universe comparisons. +1.

Ultimately, this is super well-written, gotta give you props there. That being said, the joke fell super flat for me. The set-up was entirely too long and it was completely non-sequitur to the actual punchline. Additionally, said punchline didn't strike me as absurd enough to justify the lack of pacing in the joke itself.

Ultimately, I have just one criterion that I judge a -J on, and this one didn't cut it. Sorry, but I didn't laugh. -1

Aww man. Thanks at least for taking a look at my article and rating it.

I wouldn't say the punchline is non-sequitur, though. There's several ways of interpreting what's happening here, and both of my own headcanons follow logically.

Theory 1: Karen knows too much

Junior Researcher Karen knows that the Foundation is a fictional entity, and she's fully aware that the actual Foundation site doesn't allow for copyrighted images. Thus, she desperately tries to make up a working non-copyrighted alternative, in accordance of the many similar tropes that SCP writers use, like having pictures of areas where the SCP was retrieved from, using pictures of non-anomalous specimens, using outdated artistic depictions of the entity, or using photoshopped images.

Theory 2: Jude has a bad day

The crux of this headcanon is that the article for SCP-248-J is just unable to have a picture due to propabilistic reasons, or that Jude is just extremely unlucky today. Karen's flubs are merely incompetence of her part.

When Jude wises up and delegates the task to someone else, the universe starts running out of tricks to prevent the image from being shown, so the universe pulls out the big guns and goes full-on SCP-3309 on her.

Honestly that first explanation made me laugh, while the article didnt. Ill chalk that up to me not being smart enough and you get an upvote

I assumed Theory 1 to be true while reading, so that aspect of the article did come through to a minor degree (though I assumed she was bound by the rules of her universe, unbeknownst to her conscious thoughts). The idea that she actively knows the laws of her fictional universe are bound by creative commons would be a lot funnier if it had come through.

I would have liked to see more hints at the meta aspects at play here earlier on, but honestly I'm probably not the type of dude that a joke like this would cater towards anyways and I'm not sure anything short of a total overhaul could fix that.

I Appreciate that this is a J article about a chicken who crosses a road for an unknown reason and the joke isn't about that
