So this is a rewrite of a translated piece from the French wiki. Special thanks to Decibelle and Kaktus especially for giving me feedback and a good direction to take it (and thanks go out to both the original author and the translator as well).

Also if you're wondering Monophobia is "the fear of being alone".

Did the original have the link to "Fear Alone" and the post apocalyptic hints? I have to say I like this version better.

I don't get it. The coin lands tails, but he convinces himself it was heads? Soldiers on despite hating doing something that's completely innocuous? I'm not sure what the point is.

Isn't he giving himself the illusion of having no choice, though? Taking the decision out of his own hands, only to snatch it back once more.

She's past the point where she really has a choice. The narrator will go in and she'll read a story to the girl until the day that one of them dies (or until the thing cannot be performed any longer).

The rest of the world has ended, but this ritual continues. The coin is a way for the narrator to let the burden shift off of her shoulders for just a moment. To daydream that maybe it doesn't have to be like this forever.

But it does. Obviously.

I'm unimpressed. I'm assuming the original French version was, "Welp, let's do the things that No Human Should See to a little girl again," while this is… Anticlimactic, to put it politely. In "Fear Alone," the whole point of 110 Montauk is that it looks scary to people not involved. In this, the world apparently ended on the outside but the storytelling continues? I don't get it. It's nonsensical.

Without the link to "Fear Alone," this would become another clichèd "110 Montauk is terrible, guys" story that this community has in abundance. There's really not anything new to say about what I'll call the traditional interpretation of 110-Montauk, and this doesn't add anything to the "Fear Alone" interpretation either. It seems spiteful to downvote this, but I'm thoroughly unmoved by this story.
