Did Agent Kellar ever make it back? Last we saw, he was hanging in a rope trap…
Yes, he did die. I thought that was made clear through that Agent Jackson was the only one to return, the only one interviewed afterward, and that he was last seen hanging from a tree. However, I will make edits accordingly (reading that back, it sounds really sassy - was not meant to be)
I like how this was first implied to be malicious, then implied to be harmless, then implied to be malicious again. Nice job.
Also, for posterity: the 2127 slot was filled and deleted several dozen times, as it was the lowest available slot in Series III for quite awhile. This SCP represents the long-awaited successful submission.
I appreciate the kind words, ObserverSeptember. I wasn't aware that this slot had such bad luck previously, but I'm glad I helped out!
Sensei Le Roof: New object class?
There seems to be two glaring holes here, and it is so obvious that I think it is intended but I can't figure out why:
- What happens if you actually solve the murder and write the correct name on the line?
- How was this neutralized?
Agent Jackson does write the name of the perpetrator in Agent Keller's notebook, thereby neutralizing the SCP. However, reading through it, I didn't make that clear. Editing accordingly, thank you.
I am maybe being dense, I kept looking for exactly that I couldn't find it. :(
two (2) guards
three (3) women, one (1) man, and two (2) children.
four (4) square yards
Whyyyyyyy
Other than this, it's pretty interesting, and took different turns than I expected, but I'm going to be pedantic and downvote for the stuff I quoted, because "number (#)" stuff fucks with my head and makes me have to readjust my reading mentally. It took me much longer to get through this because of it. You already have a justification for good usage of "number (#)" stuff in the "List of Materials" section. You don't need any of the above.
EDIT: In the Exploration log, you start out using "00:00", then switch to "2:02", which makes it confusing. Did we suddenly go from 1 minute and 53 seconds to 2 hours and 2 minutes?
I really like it. My only quibble is that the term 'VHS tape' is reused a bit too much in the last collapsible, you could probably just call them 'the tapes'. This is an interesting mystery that's always fascinated me, and you do an excellent job of making it into an SCP. +1
Whether you like it or not, history is on our side. We will bury you!
I like the 'Agent Daniel Jackson' reference. Nice story, too. +1
How convenient that the tapes barely show more than what could have been told by the agents, or that they exist at all, with or without providing essential knowledge. That would probably be my biggest problem with the skip, but it's easy enough to put aside. I like "game" skips, and I'm glad that this is one with some actual implied purpose. I'm thinking that maybe the tapes could have continued running for periods, but just obscured or have been pointed away from whatever is being hidden, or was "filmed" in such a way that it couldn't be determined anyway. Maybe it could have further/better implied that there's actually some form of intelligence behind it that just does that kind of thing for reasons. That's just my own problem with it, though I still like it enough.
Love how you blend true crime, film noir and video game-esque adventures all in one. +1 for me.
Upvote, but two things need correcting:
1. No mention that it teleports people back after 24 hours in the description.
2. As I think a few people have mentioned, no mention of what happened to Agent Keller until you get far in to the Addendum.
Otherwise, impressive combination of film noir and whoddunit. Quite the relief to see that it wasn't "Are We Cool Yet" get wound in.
