Somewhat inspired by my 88-year-old grandmother’s weekly tradition of phoning up “all [her] friends who aren’t dead yet”, and my own fear of regretting both the things I did and the things I didn't do. Also, what does it say about me that I chose this woman as the closest thing I've got to an authorial avatar?

Oh, and Magnus is an old fogey (but so am I so I won't hold it against him).

Though the dialogue felt a bit stiff at points, I still enjoyed the idea and driving force behind this.

Upvoted right here. This was hilarious.

Aside from that, the character interaction was quite well written and pretty emotional at points. I also found the idea of a Serpent's Hand member jumping ship to the GOC to be really interesting and thought this tale explored that pretty well. Pretty enjoyable overall.

Claire Wythers has gone through a lot of shit, and is a deeply flawed individual. I bent her a little out of character to accomplish this but it ended up a net positive. She has her reasons for leaving the Hand, some justified and some due to weakness of character. I touched on them briefly in this but there's a lot more to explore in terms of what motivates a Serpent's Hand member to join the group's polar opposite.

Fuck. As I get older the one thing I start to realize above many many other things I start to realize is that regrets don't go away.

The relationships we throw away, tarnish, or just plain don't maintain…we don't get a second chance, and generally there are no happy endings.

Dark, melancholy, and well written. +1
