I got several question during the drafting process about the inclusion of SCP-113. Its inclusion serves to indicate to the reader that Hayes is transfemale, and that she has experiences with gender dysphoria. Given that SCP-4175's condition loosely parallels these experiences, she becomes inclined to help him transition to the afterlife.

I love the expansion on the Department of Spectral Phenomena, and ghost-busting in general, but the ties to gender dysphoria and such read fairly heavy-handedly to me. The parallel between being forced to stare at your own rotting corpse and being forced to see yourself in a body you don't identify with is a decently clever one (as far as I know; I'm not transgender, so I can't speak for how accurate it is), but would be much more clever if the interview didn't rub it in your face so much.

Ah well. The ending was wholesome enough, and I always enjoy Ethics Committee interactions, so… yeah. Tentative upvote.

I'm inclined to agree. The original draft was far subtler, but it became evident during the critique process that a fair amount of readers wouldn't see the narrative extended beyond "sad ghost finds friend".

That being said, your criticism's entirely warranted, so I've removed the direct reference to helping ghosts transition in their dialogue. That should help a bit.

The parallels between the ghost's experiences and the experiences of transgender people are clever, and I can always appreciate a wholesome story.

This made me smile. It's very nice, and Hayes, a trans female, helping a ghost transition (To the afterlife) is clever. +1

I absolutely missed the metaphor earlier, but now that I understand it better, I'm glad that you included it! Reading it again, I see the connection a lot better, and I'm bummed that I didn't catch it earlier!

Same, it flew right over my head when I first read it. But I kinda like that; it feels subtle to me, so their interaction comes across as natural.

Thanks for the read! Knowledge of my weird subtextual story isn't necessary to understand this article, but Cimmerian makes what's going on in the background somewhat clear in his missive.

Taking into account past malfeasance relating to humanoid anomalies, failure to neutralize SCP-4175 will be seen as symptomatic of a misunderstanding of basic ethical practices persistent in Site-17 personnel, yourself included.

+1 for the fascinating concept, but if the kid got murdered, how did he not know he was already dead?
