We kinda already have a bunch of freaky computers…
It's not a computer.
It's a place!
But your criticism is well taken. I'll see what I can do to improve the hook so it doesn't seem like "just another freaky computer"
it doesn't feel like just another freaky computer, it's pretty nifty in it's own right.

hehehe….clockwork….
Snorlison, a thought: The first computer was disabled by a large moth, giving rise to the term "de-bugging". I wonder what form of gremlin may be lurking in the guts of this device…
I like this one, just a question though. It was a computer refined on 1:1 right? with 808 present, meaning it's a equal but different mechanical/clockwork version… so where is the extra-dimensional space coming from? clockwork can't create extra-dimensional space. extra-dimensional isn't equal to any part in a computer. it sounds too advanced. something powered by a void and noneuclidean geometry doesn't seem the same as getting powered by electricity. now i understand why you did it, logistic problems, but maybe instead of trying to find a loophole so the computer can fit in a room yet be explored, just roll with the problems. make the problem of giant computer suddenly appearing part of the story.
oh! dammit i hate it when I'm inspired in other peoples posts! i have an idea yet can't do anything about it! :) How about they put the computer in and then, bam, the room starts shaking, and this huge computer, size of a football stadium, bursts threw the roof, covering the entire area. and the main conflict is, the gear machine, one of our most valuable SCPS, is stuck inside this thing, right in the center. and so now, these people (from anther base, since the base where the computer is is stuck inside the computer…maybe even the computer is incorporating the SCPs and foundation technology inside itself making them processors or something. maybe even using the refiner's power? although that might ruin the idea) have to journey inside this mad place, past moving gears, to try to find it again, rescue the doctors, and 808 as well. In the end they could shrink it and create extra-dimensional space with another SPC somehow, so there could still be fun experiments on it. This all could be the prequel or background information. Or they could just shrink or destroy it with out extra-dimensional space, and your current journal entires would be part of the search for 808, the refiner machine, and the doctors arc.
The problem isn't so much the size. It'd be physically impossible for a mechanical device to replicate the speed of a electronic computer. That's why the compression in space and time.
It's a little bit of a cheat and a conceit, but it's some of the only ways you could possibly make mechanical objects that replicate the capabilities of common consumer electronics. I justify it by it explaining that the complexity of 914 means sometimes unintended consequences happen. The presence of another powerful SCP (808) changes the mix enough that 914 decides to skip electronic principles and create a computer using general relativistic ones.
Sometimes, the 1:1 correspondence can be a little bit more of conceptual, rather than a physical match.
Besides, it's kinda neat to try to figure out how the contortions in space/time allows 915 to be the same mass as the input computer.
"I justify it by it explaining that the complexity of 914 means sometimes unintended consequences happen."
thats true. its been mentioned in the article before that as well. makes sense. i imagine this is how it worked, 808's power adding to or overriding the gear machines…
Gear machine: must make it equal
808 (her aura, she's not actually saying this): must make it mechanical and equal
Gear machine: error!
808: do it
Gear Machine: *adds impossible space*
808's aura would probably want it to be pushed towards increased reliance on electron quantum states, since she's a conduit for, as Fish puts it, a "universe of pure electronic order".
914, however, wasn't having any of that. I'm still divided as to whether 914 was afraid of 808 the conduit, or trying to help out 808 the person. Or maybe 914 just got bored and decided introducing extradimensional space would be a nifty thing to try.
And technically, the space in 915 is the same space in the input computer. It's just been… stretched, folded, and knotted a little.
edit: And I guess I should clarify by saying I anthropomorphize 914, but that's a personal interpretation. I see 914 developing intelligence as a Boltzmann brain — entirely randomly and accidental.
oh thats interesting. what I assumed was since 808 wanted something mechanical around her, so she could actually use it(because theres a ban on anything else in her quarters), 808 just followed her command. or that 914 interpeted that a mechanical object would be more useful to her because it wouldn't get taken away. but now that i think about it, that no longer seems right.
instead, that 914 turns any object around 808 into something she can't control to combat her/balance the conflicting powers out is my new pet theory. maybe if the Robot Apocalypse ever comes, it can be foreshadowed by objects being refined into purely mechanical tools, with no reliance on electronics. because whats more useful, a tool that can be controlled by the Machine God, or one that is completely resistant to her. near the end, what researchers ask for a more useful tool, strangely they get something that seems almost primitive… (guy puts into a gun with targeting sights and laser beams, gets back a club "A club, how is that more useful then a gun?" …oh you'll see…) That could become 914 sole function, just to hint at what's going to happen very soon… You know, i might write a foundation tale about that… The idea that these guys are putting in computers, and getting mechanical ones, that capitalize on 808s weakness, is just really cool. like 914 met 808 for the first time, and figured her out… and now it's preparing us…

Happens to all of us, that. Probably a moral there somewhere.
No! Bad Researcher, bad! Don't make me rub your nose in it!

I guess I'll try to bring this old SCP closer to the present.
Uhm, No? Not without permission from Snorlison, you won't.

It is wierd that the article constantly refers to the object by just it's number? I swear everywhere it's pretty consistently SCP-### rather than just ###. Also, something seems off with the tone of this article, although I'm having difficulty putting my finger on it. It's just not clinical enough.
AAAHHHH I FORGOT ABOUT THIS ONE
ALL OF MY <3
Seriously though this is just super-duper.

I'm looking to do some edits to this for cleanup and tone. Anypony mod/admin willing to back me up on this?

Downvoting because it says "915" instead of "SCP-915". Seriously, what the fuck.
Edit: some examples.
entirely mechanical, 915 completely replicates
The interior of 915
The interior of 915 is a mass of gears,
What… what the hell. How can you screw something up like that. There are no words.
This is also my biggest issue with the article.
Apart from that, though…I don't dislike it, but I don't have a feeling for it one way or the other, either. No vote for now.
Gonna be entirely honest, that comes across to me as unforgivably nitpicky and I personally do not accept that as a legitimate reason to downvote. However, this is not intended as a Staff Post, simply as me stating that are you kidding with me.
Per Ihpkmn's legit complaint above, I'm requesting permission to go through and add SCP- to all the 915s.
Giving bearhugs to the unsuspecting since 1872.
Eh, I've done it that way myself before. I don't think that's a major formatting issue that needs correction or something worth a downvote.
In response to all of the mod/staff posts about editing this adding SCP- to all instances without it, that wouldn't be so bad. But it's not bothering enough people I think, but add me to the list, I'd like to see those added.
But +1 for 'tesseractic' space. I love inconceivable dimensions! They're like holodecks or something.
