The poetry of nature is never dead.

This is an entry for the 2019 INT GoI Contest for Team Inkblots. The primary authors of this article are DrCaroll and Gabriel Jade, but our other team members helped significantly as well! It was quite the journey being able to work with these fine individuals and I've managed to learn a lot about writing, both individually and cooperatively, by working with them.

As a reminder, votes on this page do not count towards the contest; if you wish to contribute to the Inkblots' total votes, you must do so on this page's counterpart.

Really enjoyed the characterization in the log, building tension without the mission being a casualty-ridden near-run thing can be tough to write but you nail it here. +1

The exploration log is miles better than the journal entries, and I'm mainly upvoting 'cause of them — the "hunt" dialogue felt very on-the-nose and the "oh no we actually fucked up" twist to the narrative was obvious from the start, given the anomaly — it felt a little repetitive when it came up in the journals too. Also, what the hell kind of person writes their diary centre-aligned?

Regardless, upvote, because most of this is very effective in terms of horror.

If anything, I'm a little disappointed the journals so neatly explained everything at the end. But the anomaly is interesting, the exploration is good, the containment procedures are excellent, and the idea of this Hunt group is pretty solid, too.

But all the might of nature can't overcome the ingenuity of man.

I just love the arrogance in this line. +1

I like the Foundation's plan to reintegrate her if she ever gets to the point where she can pull herself together. Hopefully she can tell that right now, they're her best chance.

Of course, they'll probably still want to contain her… whether she'll still see them as allies at that point is up in the air. Maybe she'll become Thaumiel. With SCP-4971-▽ only impartially contained and SCP-2845 likely to get ticked if it ever figures out how it's been conned, the Foundation could use a stag deity on their side.

The last journal entry struck me as too clearly written by someone with a big bug squirming around inside him, but otherwise this was great.
