Yaaaaay more tales! This was a collaborative writing effort between myself and lurkd, and was a ton of fun to do. I STRONGLY SUPPORT ADDITIONAL PROJECTS LIKE THIS IN THE FUTURE.

Anyway, thanks to everyone in chat who had a gander at this and gave ideas/critique, and thanks to lurkd for generally being super cool.

This tale sets up two new characters in the series, Dietrich Lurk and Alexandra, the AI! Excitement abounds, yes.

This has an inevitable problem that you'll always end up running into with story-based canons or series at some point when you set them up; it feels too integral to the larger plot to standalone, but sets things up neccesarily in order to make sense for later installments.

I can't also say I like Dietrich's character much (kind of grates on me), though the addition of him being affected by 1471 is a nice touch. So no vote overall.

That's all well and good… and a fair judgement overall. I'm a big believer in the 'slow burn' for characterization and wouldn't dream of introducing to much to fast. Hopefully I can convince you and TL333s later!

Thirding this. It doesn't stand on its own, nor are either of the characters who feature prominently particularly interesting. Also, there are some amazingly wonky lines such as:

His frizzy hair standing almost straight up, but that's how it normally was and most agents could care less how their hair looks while on duty.

He immediately adjusted his slouching posture and tried to suppress any amount of apparent surprise.

I'm reading all of these out of order, so while this tale was in the middle of "Author Avatar Introduction Month 2015," rather than the end, it's one of the last Resurrection tales I've read. There's a whiff of it actually setting stuff up for future use, rather than simply saying "here is Junior Comptroller So-and-So! S/he has an unusual defining characteristic!" which is nice. However, after reading 5-6 tales that introduce new, uninteresting characters, I'm pretty well sick of it. Apparently, I already read this tale and downvoted it. The fact that I was unable to remember reading this tale this it is not a good sign.

I am not sure about the pictures in the story. I think it should be left to imagination what the setting looks like and I also think that the writing should describe the setting well enough that you don't need to resort to pictures. But otherwise this looks like it should be an interesting addition to the resurrection project.

Kinda more in Decibelle's corner, save that I couldn't really get into it. Dietrich wasn't interesting at all.

Nice to see the AIC stuff getting linked in.

On the subject of Dietrich's character: I quite liked him. His mannerisms strongly remind me of some of the more experienced engineers I've met, and having 1471 along for the ride gives him a whole range of complications that provide interesting plot fodder. He has been fit into the setting nicely, for a character who has relatively little written about him we have got a decent number of established relationships with recurring or potentially recurring characters (the AIs, now Aktus and 1471).

I didn't get to see the new version of this before it went live, but I'm very happy to see that basically all my concerns were addressed quite nicely. This is fun. I like it.

Edit: my favorite expansion is the explicit use of 1471.

It's one of the few Resurrection threads that I don't know the plan for, too, so I'm excited to see where it goes.

Never realized how much much of a presence 1471 could have without words or even direct visual contact. He's like a puppy going along for the ride. A skeletal, mildly terrifying anomalous puppy, sure, but he's got to be the closest thing to a pet that a field agent can have.
