MEDITERRANEAN RIM
We are cancelling the Sarkic Dawn.
I almost included a request by the Site Director for researchers to stop calling it "Voltron";p (or the fictional giant mecha of their choice)
Oh God, now I'm imagining giant monsters rising from the Mediterranean… Maybe that's where things like Typhon or Apep came from.
I've wanted to do something with Apophis for some time actually;p The *thing* this machine and crew were sent to fight was a bit inspired by Typhon/Echinda.
As someone who is really into Mesopotamian mythology, I am now imagining Mummu, Kingu, Nammu and Abzu as Flesh-deities of some sort.
Archons! 2510 hints to Archons - attendants to the blind idiot god.
"Now I slept in the thought of my heart. […] YALDABAOTH6 […] blind. The Enemy […] Sarkic Legions. ADYTUM, a city older than […] - a place of terrible, unnumbered crimes. […] as long as the Archons remain unbound. […] ION THE BETRAYER. […] THE DEATHLESS. […] CRIMSON […] HORNED BRUTE. ASTAPHE, EMPRESS OF [..]. The great and powerful Archon, who is full of anger, the successor of the Archon of the outer darkness, the place in which all forms change, [..] who is spread out upon the way of the Midst, who carries off the souls by theft.")"
And in Gnosticism, Archons tend to come in six:) In my mind, one such archon is related to the destruction of Crete, summoned by the Minoan Conspirators hinted to in a previous SCP of mine (Gyaros). But I forgot all about writing it;p
On that note, is the Blood Empress in Dracula Factory considered as among the Archons?
I would doubt it. The Archons are, I'd assume, like second only to YALDABAOTH in terms of power. I'd assume that would mean they're more powerful than Ion, and the Blood Empress is explicitly not as powerful as Ion.
The Blood Empress is a reference to *the* Daeva herself. Who, I mean, one on one could be a threat to Ion perhaps. Both are players in a larger game, and Ion is a sort of usurper. Both rely on anomalous objects to augment themselves. Ion steals his initial relics from the Daeva, looting their reliquaries as he triggers revolts. He doesn't conquer all regions under their influence but does end up controlling a sizable former Daevite territory… before *something* happened, lost to history - causing Ion to pull away from the world and the Daeva to vanish. And in its wake, the chaos that brought the Bronze Age world into darkness.
Adytum is the city-state, formerly loyal to the Daeva, where Ion begins his revolution and his cult.
Of course, all of these are presented from the biased accounts of different cults. Dracula Factory is biased in favor of Ion, the villagers obviously holding him in reverence. Actual history but cloaked in legend.
The Red Death is a type of plague, based on the Red Death of Poe's Masque of the Red Death. Ancient biological warfare ;p
Edit: I'm actually going to touch on Sarkicsm with a Foundation document soon. I want to keep things open enough so that other writers can build it up as well, just like the CotBG and other GOI. It will be written by Dr. Judith Low and be a sort of "What we know so far" document.
Did you just-
And it-
But that-
It's-
This gave me the headcanon equivalent of an erection.
PLUS ONE SO HARD EVERY GLASS SURFACE IN EARSHOT JUST EXPLODED.
I like well-researched references to history. I like attempts to tie various bits of SCP lore together. I like mythological beings that are analyzed and written up as SCPs in a "here's how it could have plausibly happened" way. I like giant robots. Everything is here. +1.
Also…
SCP-2406 is currently disabled (but could hypothetically be repaired)
You do realize that this tale definitely needs to be written now, right?
Heh. I like giant robots and I like nuclear physics.
I also liked Pacific Rim.
This works for me.
Fun fact: the entity that left it in its current state. The CotBG would probably describe it as a "hydra".
Modern observers would likely say the saw something like that in AKIRA.
SCP-XXXX-1 was also indeed used and is still "locked" on its target.
Technically, SCP-XXXX-1 is Thaumiel and the Foundation really *really* shouldn't mess with it much ;p Less they undo its last action.
I also admit, I never saw Pacific Rim. My inspiration for this was a) the mythical Talos and b) a giant, ancient automaton from a game I played a lot in my youth which is depicted in this intro video :) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DW6iW8EitVs
This is super epic. Well well well done. I need to go start reading up on Mesopotamian deities and other ancient beleifs.
This reminded me more of evangelion than any other giant robots, and the Thaumiel SCP-2406-1 as similar to the spear of Longinus. Also man oh man I hope this thing gets repaired and put into use.
I really like how the CoTBG is slowly becoming one of the few "good" guys in the world. They're no longer just a weird cult, they're a complicated religion that is actively fighting the coming apocalypse.
In my mind, the real threat is with the Orthodoxy. I imagine the church has been in a fallen state for quite some time, but at one point, represented a collection of the greatest thinkers of the ancient world - engineers, scientists, philosophers, alchemists, and so on.
I'm thinking, with some of these ancient threats returning, many in the Church are trying to return to what they once were as well. I would like to explore something involving the Clockwork Orthodoxy, who to me - seem bent on freezing time with the 1700s-1800s.
my first thought when I saw the title was that it would be related to the Colossus at Rhodes. Still like. Upvoted.
Nope, but it is related to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talos
Great, now I'll have to change my giant-related idea so it doesn't seem similar. Not that I can make it even remotely as good as this. +1
