Nice! Not totally sure what's going on in here but I like it. (if you want some nicer image formatting, by the way, stick this in the page where you've got the image code now)

Also, you should host the image locally - you can do that in the "files" link at the bottom of the page.

Wait, so Tezh, Tait, and "Smokey" are all the same person? Somehow? And their split has something to do with the knee injury? And their obsession with beating (themselves?) in a race?

Or am I entirely off-base?

I'm still working on figuring this one out :)

Ok, I think I get it.

Smokey is a manifestation of the champion runner that Charles Tezh would have become if not for the injury, and Charles is obsessed with becoming as good of a runner as he would have been without the injury, hence needing to beat Smokey in a race.

After going back in time and staying there, he had to create a new identity, and ended up with the name Tait, and eventually became a senior Foundation researcher.

Smokey cheats because Charles sees the injury as being horrifically unfair.

Am I close?

In a way, yes. In reality,

They're all the same person. Smokey is Tezh at different points in time. Note the Foundation presence, as well as the direction he runs. Smokey 'cheats' because he's a young kid: willing to do anything possible. In reality, Tezh caused his own injury: by bumping Smokey, he caused his own injury to himself in the past. As such, when he realizes it, he heads back to become Tait: if you look at all of Tait's notes, they either prevent Tezh from running, or minimize his impact, trying to stop the injury from occurring in the first place.

I was going to complain that the dialogue is really lacking, but oh boy, that final line hits really hard. Took me a second to figure it out, but that's an extremely good twist and it makes the whole article. +1
