This scared me in a very visceral, very fearful way. I’ve been in investing communities, and the dialogue between the two fellows was way too familiar to me, and it affected me in a way that it almost feels like this SCP might’ve been written just to scare me. Only a writing genius can do that.

My main complaint lies in the last two addenda, which I didn’t really get a reaction from. The first one has a good picture, but I didn’t get the point. I didn’t get too much of a reaction from the second one either. IMO it could’ve ended after the podcast.

+1 mainly because the podcast made me shit myself

I was really tempted to end it at the podcast. The final two addendums were, ultimately, kinda tacked on at the end. Together, they serve two purposes: To establish that this horrible thing has horrible consequences (the teeth aren't the only thing that grows back), and to establish that Lucien Marchand is a hypocrite and a fraud.

I'll give some thought as to whether or not to trim it. I feel like I wanted to go a little over the top for once (rather than something restrained), but if more people feel like the last two addendums aren't needed, I'm very comfortable just junking them. The final line in the log is a pretty good (albeit weird) stinger.

Also, thanks for the compliment! I mention it in the author's post, but the conversation is based on this interview (which inspired the skip).

I think the 2 addenda are pretty good. The carcinoma one brings the horror element by showing that this ritual is not harmless, and the last one shows that even though this Lucien guy actually possesses magical powers, he is still a fraud.

I see benefit from the addenda as you say, but they didn't work for me. I wish there were a way to include those ideas another way. Maybe just as 2-3 sentences?

I think you should keep the two addendums. The concept of pulling teeth out and eating them to increase stock value wasn't necessarily horrifying to me. This is an incredibly strange universe, after all, and worse rituals have been seen. It's an amazingly weird article with just the base concept, definitely worthy of upvotes, but the addendums are what bring the theme home along with adding a sense of subtle horror. +1 from me, and a plea to keep the additions.

I qm kinda confused where the money actually came from though? Or was it completely fake? If it was completely fake, why the anomalous tumors?

I might want to qualify this a little bit more clearly in the skip:

It's an investment scheme. Every time you pull and swallow teeth as per a ritual, your stock portfolio creeps up in value.

I agree that that could be more explicitly stated. With how it’s written now it sounds like the money just arrives in the mail in an unmarked envelope

Yeah — I made the change. Hopefully this language makes it clearer what's going on:

SCP-4089 is an investment strategy in which the extraction and consumption of teeth produces increased returns on certain stock portfolios.

I didn't want to get too specific here, because the closer you look at this, the more weird it gets — that being said, I think (hope?) this will make it more clear where the money's coming from.
