Oh hey, you put up your headcanon and antimeme section thing. Neato!
So I think the Foundation keeps SCPs in containment mainly in order to study them, learn from them, and ultimately understand them. Once understood, an SCP might get an EX classification and be released to the general public. (Joking aside, SCP-001-EX-J completely lines up with this idea.) This explains why, for the most part, the Foundation doesn't simply try to destroy all SCPs.
This. Summed up my sentiments about the Foundation as a whole. Glad to see like-minded individuals.
P.S. I would like to see a "hub" elaborating more in the anti-memes phenomena.
Mate, remind me to hit you up about Pattern Screamers.
For future reference to page visitors who don't grasp the meta of the Antimemetics, check page revision 26.
Other antimemetic things that you may have missed (unless it was intentional):
SCP-2828 by ooblex and SCP-2523 by me (not explicitly, but the implication is that "faerie glamour" and the normalization of the weird here are antimemes; which is why mnestics are effective).
Edit: Now expressly antimemetic.
qntm, the more Antimemetics stuff I read, the more I admire your work. The canon is well-constructed, the stories require mental gymnastics without sacrificing momentum, and the writing is often very pretty without being flashy. The Antimemetics canon is how I like to imagine a Foundation film - smart, human, action-packed.
3125 is by far and away one of my top favorites on this entire site. Sometimes I feel like it should have been an 001, but then maybe I like better that it's a random number. Ironically, it's better hidden in plain sight as a random number rather than hidden away in the 001 files. In addition to enjoying it and getting totally sucked into it, I've had to reread it multiple times and I still feel like I'm not getting it properly. So, the fact that someone can create this ineffable concept and then articulate it so thoroughly (AND without reducing the suspense at all!) blows my mind. You have my deep admiration.
hey qntm i'm just posting here because i haven't seen anyone else show their appreciation: your weird tip is the best advice i've come across in years. it helped me get out of a lot of ruts last year and changed the way i approach the whole writing process, so thank you!
stopping by again, i've read the entire antimemetics division hub back to front now and the question i wanted to ask is: are there any underexplored but promising areas of the canon you'd like to see fleshed out that you won't be covering in 55555? i'd love to contribute (and i'm sure a lot of other people would too) since it's such a fun concept but at the same time i don't want to collide with the narrative trajectory you've planned for.
