I would like it if some of the objects had more subtle effects or had mental effects like original. I also don't like that too many of them have useful or cool effects.
I actually have what the objects "really" do in a word document sitting on my computer. I wrote this one as a "discovered information" style research document, which omits some important facts and data. All of them have an obvious effect and a subtle effect, like -4, but none of them — with the mild, light exception of the scissors — really spells that out.
it also would have been interesting if you had written them such that the effects of the objects seemed like they were meant to be used together, having effects that go together or complement each other somehow.
Granted, but they were already "magical" in a way, and I didn't want this to be, like, a power ranger shaving kit, I guess. Swiss army shaving kit. There. That. That's what I was avoiding.
It also would have been more interesting if you had written the effects in a way that seemed to tell a subtle story about why the objects have their effects.
Not a bad idea. You could write that one, if you wanted, but I've left the "originating event" and whoever the traveler was who had this collection up to someone else.
