So the other night, I had a dream wherein Earth's atmosphere was turned toxic, and people had to wear gas masks in order to breathe outside. Every building was airtight and had an airlock. I think it had something to do with people denying the effect pollution has on the environment being carried to an ultimate conclusion. I remember seeing either an advert or an energy company board meeting where the idea of harnessing methane (CH4, which is lighter than air) from the upper atmosphere for fuel was discussed. I also remember gas stations (or convenience stores, more likely) selling nicotine filters for gas masks instead of cigarettes because you can't really smoke in this kind of world. The whole thing had a very Blade Runner aesthetic to it.
I really want to write a story about this world, but can't think of a way to fit it into the context of the Foundation universe, and can't think of a way to make it a creepypasta. Are there any SCPs that might do this? Where should I go with this? Any ideas are appreciated.
