I guess you could say this article is pretty sponge-worthy, not that there's anything wrong with that, it's just that these pretzels are makin' me thirsty.
When this event (hereby referred to as Event—001) occurs, all sentient beings that are not SCP-2145 instances experience mild to severe behavioral disruption. Within an amount of time ranging from one minute to one week of Event—001, all Event—001 victims will intersect paths multiple times with SCP-2145 instances.
I'd advise you to add "nearby" before "sentient beings", because this makes me feel that there is a way bigger of a range for the event when i'm almost sure that this isn't what you were going for.
I don't like reality benders, but details like the well-written interview with the subject are good. I could have imaginated it going exactly like that. The tone is also good.
Also, i don't know if it's related, but 5/14/1998 is the day Frank Sinatra died. If this was intended (given that this is an SCP taking place around NY), then good job. Upvote.
This is about Seinfeld, isn't it?
The series ended with a 75-minute episode (cut to 60 minutes in syndication, in two parts) written by co-creator and former executive producer Larry David, which aired on May 14, 1998.
Edit: Dammit Smapti figured it out first.
I'll upvote it because it's good. But it's also ridiculous. Almost too out there. This thing toes the line like nothing I've ever seen. But it sticks the landing, I guess. Your tone doesn't let the premise get away from you and the kicker isn't incredibly obvious. You're in the sweet spot here but only just barely.
I mean, yeah, Seinfeld, but you're doing the thing a disservice but not looking any deeper than that.
This is… er… what the fuck?
Having never seen Seinfield, I'll be judging it without knowledge of that, my judgement being what. Good what, though, so I'll upvote. Also because I like people subverting amnestics the wonder drug, and because "evidence of hand-washing inconclusive". Some nitpicks, though:
contact for this event being defined as "coming within walking or talking distance of an instance of SCP-2145," the distance being required for this being variable.
"the distance being required for this being variable" is redundant. Also that's a fair bit of a run-on sentence.
all sentient beings that are not SCP-2145 instances experience mild to severe behavioral disruption
That's… quite a wide range. Like, near about the entire animal kingdom.
Oh, and
is that size 0 font a reference to the TV show, or something I'm missing?
Having seen the show, yep- they disrupt the behavior of "near about the entire animal kingdom" at some point in the series. That poor horse…
I upvoted. Then downvoted. Now it's upvoted again, and it's going to stay like that. Here's why:
The idea is good, and it's really well written. The reference is funny and nice if you're a fan, but it's not what makes the article. You could substitute "3 males, 1 females" for, lets say, "3 males, 3 females" (Friends) and I would still upvote it. This is 50% "Sitcom made SCP, with the reality bending REQUIRED to cause most sitcom situations", and 50% going beyond that and making something marvelous.
I will say though, I think the SCP requires some serious…."toning down". Right now, it's all-powerful. It uncontainable, and what little measures the Foundation had for keeping its effect in check is fading away. I think that aspect of the article requires some reconsideration.
That's all, folks.
Love Seinfield but I agree with the idea that it needs to toned down. Right now its an uncontained anomaly animating dead bodies with wide spread public awareness. If they were just a group of people who had far too many unlikely events and coincidences happen around them then this would work better. The general public wouldn't be aware of it (they would just think they're bad luck or something) and the foundation wouldn't have to trying to terminate them, just monitor them. They wouldn't have to be reality benders either, perhaps speculated to be, but the nature of the anomaly would be unconfirmed.
