Huh. Never realized I lived so close to a Foundation site…
When was the first DNM stuff posted, two or three months ago? And now we have a canon dedicated to life in the Foundation universe's southeastern US. Give it a few more months, the whole site will be Southern US. Then what? The whole internet? All of fiction? Ladies and gentlemen, we need to stop this now before it spreads. Our way of life is at stake. Just kidding; I love DNM. Help me. Kate McTiriss has taken me hostage!
Anyways, congrats on the new canon and such. I'll be sure to read it as it happens.
I actually lived on the Gulf Coast for just under 2 years. Just a thought…
There's a LOT of military presence on the Gulf. In the 300 miles between Panama City and Biloxi, there's 5 bases, one large test range, an Army Special Forces group, one of the two huge Air Force Special Operations flying bases (plus the AF equivalent of the Special Forces group), experimental fighter aircraft, rockets and missiles being shot off into the Gulf for tests, and a LOT of military job training.
How does that interact with the SUSEOCCT and the Foundation?
Can you call up an AC-130W to cover up a containment breech as a favor and disguise it as a regular training sortie? What happens when a Special Forces team brings back something from Afghanistan that really should have stayed there? What if the Marine Corps's newest fighter doesn't quite act like it should because its pilot reads the wrong bible translation? If a Ranger School class in Florida Phase or a class of Army Divers disappears or doesn't quite come back like the same from the swamps, who gets the call? How do you teach an Explosive Ordnance Disposal class to disarm a bomb that's cobbled together from SCPs? What if a regular Air Force test undergoes an anomaly and becomes something that needs to be contained?
This canon canon is super interesting for someone who lives in Dixie county county, and has been to the cross city city city city hall.
I think psul just wrote something for this canon? So not dead, but maybe a little moribund.
I've lived in south AL my whole life, and many of my ancestors came from down here, so when I saw the concept, I was super excited! However, I see some issues.
They have romantic flings with people outside of work. They're diverse,
coming from all over the world and all different races, genders,
sexualities and religions.
Ya'll seem to have based the culture of the south on places like Miami, which could not be further from the truth. In most of it, like the Wiregrass (where I live), it tends be conservative and Christian. I would like to try writing about my area of the southeastern US for this canon, but if I have to write it the way it seems to be intended, then I don't really want to misrepresent my home. -1 for now.
Why does the region's typical religious/political beliefs and stance on sexuality really have a bearing on what this canon is about? I'm from the deep south and i'm probably the last person you'd think of being from the Gulf region.
Also I don't really believe that a canon on the internet will misrepresent your home to incredibly bad.
Just my two cents.
ole yeeyee headass
You’re right.vAbout a year ago, when I wrote that, I was in a different place, I was living in a small, Baptist, straight, white bubble. I was basically a racist, homophobic dick, but I would like to think that I’ve gotten much better since then. I’ll also be reversing that vote, because it was a dumb fucking reason to -1.
