Excellent piece of work. Great work, Ihpkmn. +1.
This started out so simple. Just a SCP riffing on the Watchmaker analogy, which I learned about in my philosophy class. Then, the GOI contest happened, and I got all sorts of new material for the CotBG. After that… well, I didn't intend to use all of this.
With that said:
Complaints about format tweaks… will be taken into consideration, but honestly, I like it right now.
Complaints about the ending… yeah, I'm gonna ignore those, sorry.
Complaints about over-the-top-containment… really? You think this is OTT? Huh.
I have to apologize to- and thank- Djoric for his help with this, as well as Pincier, DrLeonard, Soulless, Waterfire, TwistedGears, and anyone else who looked at this. Look at what you have wrought and despair.
NEEDS MORE ORTHODOXY
-1 Forever.
No love for little Kaktus, I see. Very well ;-;
So, a few things.
1) Despite my misgivings, I've changed the theme of this to nuSCP.
2) I've added an image! Source is here: https://pixabay.com/en/beach-milos-greece-greek-island-913560/
3) The Broken Year begins soon.
I like it. I like 610 and the Church of the Broken God. That said…
I feel that a subject such like this requires a similar level of exploration and detail as 610 or 093. This has a lot of promise but something with that much going on deserves an SCP-093 style treatment. I also don't care for dates set in the future, but that is a personal pet peeve.
Hesitantly upvoting. It isn't bad, but I think it could be great. An epic scenario is being hinted to but deserves so much more.
Really digging the notion that 610 isn't just a visceral disease and is in fact something with far greater importance.
And if the whole world is crashing down… fall through space out of mind with me.
I personally really like the whole idea of this SCP. It has a well-thought out backstory and it has a great example of good crosslinking. That being said, my only qualm is about the future date. While there have been quite a few hinting and shady dates in a lot of SCPs, I feel like setting documents in the future kind of detracts from the mystery. Regardless, I'll give it +1 for being interesting and well thought out.
I'm still unsure about the 610 inclusion, or the cationic particles on the beach, though I like the rest.
Neutral vote, ultimately.

Can't help you on the former part, but on the latter… believe it or not, there are some rocks that are capable of attracting lightning. Granite is a known lightning magnet, and any part of soil with enough metallic and/or magnetic content can attract electrical discharges.
Hmm, that sounds possible, but I mean, the term is bugging me more than anything. I haven't met it anywhere else, and uh, given cation is a + charged ion, it suggests there are chunks of ionized metal lying on the beach, without having the charge imbalance dissipate into the enviroment.
(In the case I'm derping around massively, which actually might be the case, if you can pull up a definition from somewhere that'd dissipate the issue)
Which actually could be a really neat anomaly if it was given attention (basically, static electricity reservoir that'd jolt you badly when you pick it up, but it lies on the beach without discharging. Oh, and discharge one of them , toss it back, and watch the world's littlest lightning show as the charges between it and its neighbours balance x3), but like, not enough lampshade for it, which makes it sound like bad science rather than an anomaly.
…
I knew there was a reason I only got a B in my last chem class. Gimme a sec.
E: hopefully that rectifies it somewhat.
Escaped chemical engineering major to the rescue:
metal+salt solution= battery (and corrosion)
metal deposits + ocean + eldritch monolith = mother of all spark plugs.
As long as it has the sort of massive surface deposits you can find in the metal-rich Mediterranean volcanic islands, its got all the iron, zinc, lead, copper, and electricity it could ever need. You wouldn't get shocked aside from lightning strikes because the island itself would be the capacitor. You're grounded relative to the island, but the island is going to be attracting lightning and generating St Elmo's Fire every time a decent cloud rolls by.
Bonus: Sand struck by lightning forms glass. Glass is an insulator. Metals encased in or composited with glass insulators in various ways are also known as transistors, capacitors, vacuum/gas tubes, and industrial grade conduits. A sacred site for the CotBG indeed.
What I enjoy about the piece is how well suited 610 and the CoTBG are as mortal enemies. It makes too much sense: a group dedicated to the replacement of flesh fighting against a corruption that is nothing but flesh. I'd love to see some tales about this.
This makes me want to see 610 explored more. The church scene in the original SCP article suggested retained sapience and behavior.
I felt this deserved its own post, since I feel like a jackass for not mentioning it in my author commentary post.
This SCP couldn't have happened if not for one of the most awesome people on the wiki, FortuneFavorsBold. The inspiration for this idea comes from the GOI contest, and we were on the Church of the Broken God team together. When we were spitballing ideas, he thought it would be cool if we made 610 Satan to the Broken God. And so, we did, but we never got a chance to properly writing about it outside of a few oblique allusions. This was my attempt to make these ideas whole.
So, Fortune, if you're reading this, you made this happen. Thanks, man.
