An SCP inspired by one photo of a door

Mark Unread 30 Jan 2019 16:26

So, this one SCP originally was created as a quickie to explain a door saying SCP 5493, which was located in brazil.
I then decided to expand it, and this is the result.
I want to thank Anorrack for help in grammar and ideas, along with other people who read the draft in the sandbox. It can be said this is kind of co-authored SCP.

EDIT: I want to thank not-a-seagull for further enhancement to the article and major grammar fixes and rewordings.

There are a few spelling and grammar errors throughout the article, but overall, it's a very interesting SCP, and I like it. +1 from me.

Yeah, it is still under fixes, so is a matter of time before everything is corrected.

Amazing work Mark, glad you made it into the finish line. Looking forward to seeing more from you!

I like the concept, but the execution was lacklustre for two reasons:

• the skip is fairly drawn out and overexplained, making the article pretty bloated; it feels twice as big as it should be. Not specifically because there's two tabs, just that I felt like I'd already seen everything there was to see half-way through, with various parts being there just to match a word count. Large portions of it could be trimmed/removed without negatively affecting the overall content imo, like the 3 events, and anything in the neutralised tab that doesn't add anything new to the first tab; it seems fairly obvious what's happening here, it suffers when you explain every detail instead of letting people figure it out themselves.

• the English definitely needs touching up; partly because the wording is awkward at times, including various things that don't connect to the rest of the article (What's "type green"? Why isn't the interview log given any context/introduced/referenced?) and partly because it veers off the sterile tone a skip should have into more classical fiction writing - this one is a similar criticism to the first one, where it feels like everything's being explained like a story would instead of letting the the article do the telling. The former description and the interview log seem to suffer from being a vehicle for offloading the narrative, instead of being their own thing, for example.

As before though, I do like the concept, and the pieces for the execution are already there - just a bit of spring cleaning and you've got yourself a nice little piece.

I’m not the author but I do know that the words “type green” is the term the G.O.C uses to describe really powerful reality benders.
Edit: And I just responded to a months old post

I love a good Foundation-based paradox.

The only faults are, in my opinion, the grammar/syntax issues. Other than that, I like the story!

+1

I really don't understand this. Can someone explain it?
