Not many things happen only once upon a time.
Not many things happen only once upon a time.
Every story is a cycle of being heard and retold, reshaped by those who listen and speak. A seed once planted will grow over generations, shaped by those who came after. These ideas might predate us, but the stories are ours and yours.
The cycle will continue,
but now we set the tune.

Eventyr
Danish: fairy tale, folktale, adventure
Derived from the Middle Low German word [eventǖr(e)], meaning "story or history; a notable event; a risk or danger; a knightly adventure," and the Latin [adventūra], meaning “things that will happen”.
IPA Pronunciation: [ɛːvəntyːˀɐ] or alternatively the Anglification [ˈɛvəntir].
Eventyr is a setting rooted in the very foundations of the SCP wiki: the common concepts we creatively share. This setting is a way for contributors to pay tribute to those classical SCP elements they love, while adding their own flair to it. Adaptation and reinterpretation, both in-universe and out.
This is all set in a neutral, bureaucratic Foundation, meant to dichotomize the human element. Cold but not cruel, and only because of their religious worship of processes and paperwork. In-universe, adaptation is captured in hermeneutics: an anomalous reinterpretation reshaping reality based on the story and those who interact with it.
Hermeneutics
The theoretical framework for interpretation focussed on religious texts and (folk) literature. Concerned with the discovery of meaning.
Anomalous hermeneutics
An anomalous concept capable of altering baseline reality through recontextualisation around said concept.
IPA Pronunciation: [hɜːrməˈnjuːtɪks].
So what makes something Eventyr?
Our core is fairytale whimsy and darkness, classical literary stories, and fantastical allegory or metaphor. These stories and motives are ways to reinterpret reality. Every version of Alice depends on her Wonderland, and the same goes for our characters.
Thematically, this is a setting about generational curses and learning from the mistakes of our guardians, hopefully to do better this time around. Finding humanity in an indifferent and uncaring world; finding shelter and family.
Visuals are a big part of Eventyr. Not just drawings, but any kind of CSS or media: it's not just to make it look pretty, it's part of how the story is told. A fairytale without pictures is simply not the same.
Our intention is to use adaptation to revisit the things that made us fall in love with this universe and its characters and lore. Our very own retellings of old author avatars, groups of interests, events and more. From the Cornwall Incident to Class of '76, from Iris to the GRU-P, from a gallery of Anart to every version of the Black Queen, and many more yet to be written.

A How-To Guide
While Eventyr is a canon containing multiple series, we welcome all to contribute if they are interested. A good place to start would be to either reach out to AstersQuill and/or
sailorenoch, or to visit the Eventry channel in Canon Nexus to talk about your idea.
Eventyr is, after all, a setting of remixes for old SCPs, tales, author avatars, and ideas. If you want to write a specific character, reach out to the author you find writes them the most (Ex. Faust for general/Foundation lore, Iris and Meri for Aster, Clef and Strelnikov for Fly, Black Queen for Prismal, etc.). Aster, Faust, or another member of chat can help direct you if needed. If you haven't seen a character yet, feel free to ask if there are plans for them, as long as they are not a Bright (all of which do not exist in this setting).
We also ask that all prospective authors read SCP-8166, as well as the stories relevant to the idea they are wishing to contribute (if applicable) before contributing to the canon. Those pieces act as the genesis to the setting, and should bring you up to speed on being able to contribute your own ideas to the canon. Additionally, we recommend you receive critique from AstersQuill and/or sailorenoch, as well as other writers who have contributed to the setting prior.
You can use the Eventyr theme and its divs for Eventyr articles!
If there are any further questions, feel free to reach out to AstersQuill or emperorfaust on Discord. We're also kicking around 19cord and Canon Nexus so if you see us in chat, just flag us down. If you don't have a Discord, you can send a PM on Wikidot to Aster (but it might take a little longer to respond), or contact Faust via tumblr.
Happy Writing!
Want to do art?
We absolutely love seeing it and if you want to, we might add it to the hub! Make sure it is compatible with the SCP license (CC BY-S.A. a.k.a. no tracing or heavily referencing of copyrighted images) and let us know!
And of course, the cycle continues beyond Eventyr as well. There are those who interpret our world further through art and we love showing off their work! Contact our resident artist, sailorenoch, in order to document permission to post your art to the hub.
We will also list splinter canons or series that are compatible with Eventyr and/or have crossover entries.

Echoes of memories, long since forgotten, haunt your mind. It started, as all things do, with a name. Heather Garrison and Lillian Lillihammer are tangled up in this On Guard 43 splinter of love, lesbians, memetics and memories.
A big thank you to everyone who enjoyed our work! Interpretation and reinterpretation is one of the big themes of Eventyr and visual renditions of written works certainly count.
All of us are storytellers, whether we do it through art, writing, css, audio, performance or handcraft. These are our thoughts on why we need to tell stories.
— The Eventyr storytellers
Stories are the lens through which I experience the world, the bridges I built and cross to connect to others, and the way I honour the mundane beauty of humanity. With every story told, you give a piece of yourself. Sometimes that's a part of your deepest darkest moments, sometimes it's silly or lighthearted, but it is always a part of who you are.
A risk, and adventure, a notable event, an eventyr.
To create and tell stories is to be human. Every single word, css element, and polish given is an art in itself, one that not only allows for use to explore the different topics and themes we find exciting, but by then sharing that work with others to enjoy. In that way, stories are not only a way of affirming our humanity, but by allowing us to tell others that we not only see them as human, but the stories they carry with them as well.
Storytelling and art are the most ancient forms of human expression. Every word and every brush stroke comes from years of life experience all leading up to this. Stories are a true reflection of every part of ourselves, our thoughts, and our culture. No one tells the same story or paints the same picture twice.
Stories are an escape; a fantasy where we can be ourselves, without fear. I write because the stories need to be told; I create art because the act of creation is rebellion in of itself.
To say something meaningful.
— Fish^12
Stories are the subjectivity we use to make sense of an objectively meaningless world. Time, identity, finances, morality, these are all stories we tell to make sense of everything. That's a large part of why I read and write, to better interpret life, to know and make known that nobody is truly alone in their experiences.
— Prismal
Stories are living beings just like you and me. However, unlike those who tell them, stories never die. They evolve and change throughout the years to better suit those that tell them, but they don't die. This is what makes stories magical, at least for me.
For me, storytelling is an extension of emotion. We don't get to choose the emotions we experience, but we can channel them into our writing. Being able to do so allows us to store them to access or share at a later time, and I think that is what I enjoy most about it. When committed to writing, emotions of the moment endure forever, both good and bad. If even one person connects with that, it can make all the difference.
— Waxx
As long as humanity has existed we have been telling stories. Regardless of their genre and topic, they tell something about the people and time they were written in. Thus by indulging in their creation and sharing them is the only way we can hope to comprehend each other and ourselves.
— Guaire
