Draft Swap 2025!

rating: +64+x

The concept is simple — every entrant will submit one of their drafts to an organizer, and on the 17th of March, those drafts will be shuffled and redistributed — everyone will have 24 days until closing to work on that draft to the best of their ability. The event is being run by Uncle NicoliniUncle Nicolini and QueeriousQueerious. To make things perfectly clear, this is an Official SCP Discord Writing Channel event, not a wiki contest!

HARD RULES

  • All entrants are required to have at least one article posted with a rating greater than +10.
    • Exceptions can be made for the above, please ask an organizer about it.
  • You are only allowed to submit one draft. Make it count.
    • Only links to wikidot sandboxes will be accepted. No notepads, no Google docs, no exceptions.
  • Once you receive your assigned draft, it is considered your own. You may add, subtract, change, or otherwise affect the entire article at your discretion.
    • Keep in mind that your submitted draft may be changed in ways you do not expect. This is an intentional aspect of this event.
  • Submit your draft to the organizers and/or post by the end of the event.

RECOMMENDATIONS

  • You are not required to have a final polished draft submitted at the end of the writing phase; you simply need to produce something that can be read fully and critiqued. Use common sense.
    • You are allowed to continue polishing the draft and/or post it after the contest.
    • You are allowed to show your draft progress to others; this isn't art exchange!
  • This is not a competition! This is a community event, so the real treasure are the friends we made along the way.
  • We reserve the right to litigate nonsense and foolishness.

Hell, I like this event! I have a draft, where and who do I send it to?
Send Uncle NicoliniUncle Nicolini a Wikidot DM with a link to your draft. Once the swap starts, we will send you someone else's draft to work on!

What qualifies as a draft?
Drafts should be more than simply an idea: you should already have put some work into developing the idea, figuring out rules and structure, writing some parts out, etc. You don't have to have a lot done, but we won't be accepting anything that's nothing more than a title. If you have any questions on whether or not what you have qualifies, send QueeriousQueerious or Uncle NicoliniUncle Nicolini a DM!

My draft is kind of hard to write without my perspective/knowledge. Is that okay?
While it is preferable for a draft to be easy to understand (for example, NOT high level science, deep fandom lore, specific historical accuracy), you can submit a draft with that subject matter. Although, if you do do so, you should be committed to sticking around in chat to help out and provide information.

If I want to post what I wrote, do I need to credit the original author as a co-author?
Before posting, you should ask the original author what they would like, and go along with that.

I've put a lot of thought into my draft, but most of it isn't on the actual page. Is that okay?
If this is the case for you, I'd suggest including a note to the recipient explaining ideas you had for the draft, what you wanted to get across with it, etc. They're not beholden to it, but it might help them.

If you're active in Deer College chat, you can also just talk directly to whoever gets your draft and chat/brainstorm with them about it.
