The old world is dying, and the new world struggles to be born; now is the time of monsters.
— Antonio Gramsci (1891–1937)

In the Name of Normalcy
Years ago, Moto42 could not predict what would become of his simplistic creepypasta on the 4Chan forums. Back then, the history of the SCP Foundation was first presented to us: there was a high-tech secret agency of the governement always watching over us, responsible for locking away anything that deviates from the common perception of what our reality should constitute. And a statue capable of killing you in the blink of an eye was just one of several other monsters out there, eagering to escape and wreak all havoc.
A large writing collaborative community was given form shortly after, and the mythos grew. It was made clear that the Foundation would travel whatever path was necessary to ensure that their Veil would persist.
Jailing humans for unique characteristics, sacrificing people in the death corridor — whether wrongfully convicted or not — and embracing a violence so vile it should not be spoken of. All of this was justified, or understandable at last. Necessary. For the betterment of all. Cold, yes, but not cruel. Humanity had to survive.
You had to survive.
But as time went on and the new standards demanded fresh narratives to be explored, another approach of the SCP Foundation came to be. In times where fascistic movements threaten to rise to the same positions they once held decades ago, the concept of an all-powerful organization in charge of deciding what is normal or not felt personal enough to be reborn. Art had to follow its role as a mirror of reality and be equally aggressive.
To be cold was to be cruel — and maybe, just maybe, we were the ones dying in the dark for all this time.
Secure, Contain, Protect.
The stories below are the spire of those words.

General Summary
The Department of Continuity is the face of a Foundation that never wore a mask to begin with.
It is classified as the one responsible for Normalcy.
This is an organization with heavy fascist and positivist aspirations, acting as the primary intelligence agency of the greatest superpower on Earth: the United States of America. By harnessing the power of the paranormal and employing advanced technology, the Department of Continuity fully embraces its mission as a bureaucratic horror by ensuring the preservation of the status quo at all costs. An anomalous object discovered in a Native village is not the problem in the eyes of the Department of Continuity. What truly calls for action, however, is the Native people learning to use it for their own purposes.
When necessary, destiny will be manifested once more.
The idea that the world has always been this away; the immature hatred for the human species itself; and the certainty that the people cannot be trusted with any form of power; that is the soul of the "SCP Foundation". If the next day is the same as before and one does not yearn for change, then containment was successful.
Everything is just a protocol. Everything is automated.
And the Veil, as God's greatest treasure, will prevail.
How to Contribute
All additions to the Department of Continuity storylines should take the next step in the clinical tone of the SCP Foundation's zeitgeist. Characters associated with the Department of Continuity are overly formal, as robotic as the machines maintaining their cherished structure. Everything this force of order fights against is to be treated accordingly: inconveniences to be investigated and corrected without delay. Think of it as a scientific paper no more, but as a secret police document.
In one way or another, your work must incorporate elements of horror. The sheer coldness of the protocols adopted, the atrocities openly and proudly committed by the Foundation, or the horrors they allow to roam free once more — all of it should create a disturbingly governmental experience. Here, the goal of your art is to provoke both the comfortable and the uneasy.
Anything that seriously threatens the prevailing order is considered anomalous by the Department of Continuity — but writers are not encouraged to stop there and simply depict a single concept, group, or person as the sole anomaly of their entry. Instead, try integrating the classic paranormal aspects of the site with what your contribution seeks to reflect upon, giving meaning to its societal themes through familiar lenses and deliberate dehumanization shaped by the very format we use.
Remember: the traditional meaning of "anomalous" is still present, though rebranded for a refreshed narrative. For example: SCP-8557 employs sapient wounds and the surgical procedure developed by the Foundation to provide a twisted perspective on how mental health issues are left untreated, rendering those who suffer from them isolated — perfect victims for abuse and fetishization. Its execution is not simply “mental illness is an anomaly.” When addressing any sensitive topic as an artist, it is extremely important to go beyond.
If you wish to incorporate opposition groups into your entries, you are advised to portray them through a radical lens — for the Department of Continuity is merely a tool of the SCP Foundation, which in turn serves as yet another instrument of the imperialistic machinery of modern capitalism. Furthermore, it is encouraged to explore recurring elements of the SCP canon in a new fashion more coherent with the hub.
Object classes, once defined by the difficulty of containment, can now signify the extent to which an anomaly in its entirety threatens order. Esoteric classes such as Thaumiel and Archon may be reinterpreted as anomalies that assist the Department of Continuity in any meaningful capacity and are therefore purposefully overlooked. The bodily autonomy for which trans people struggle is a problem to the societal pillars of capitalism — hence why SCP-2911 is seen as an ally.
Amnestics, on the other hand, may be weaponized as a means of punishing any organized groups opposing the Foundation in narratives centered on resistance, while the D-Class population can be reimagined as individuals captured within those conflicts or "unwanted" people.
On an important note, you are free to incorporate the storylines presented here into other canons to develop different forms of commentary. In the end, directly mentioning the Department of Continuity is not even required for a work to qualify for this hub. As long as you capture the core elements of how this Foundation operates, you are good enough to proceed and publish.
