MENTOR EVENT
It's spring again, and that means it's time for another Deer College Writing Event! In past years we did the Spring Cleaning and Draft Swap events—both of which were well enjoyed community writing events. So, what are we going to do this year? Since you clicked on this page, you likely already know, but we're going to pretend you landed here completely in the dark. So, here's a hint:
men·tor·ship
/ˈmen(t)ərˌSHip/
a developmental relationship where an experienced person (mentor) guides a less experienced one (mentee) for personal development.
That's right—this year we are doing a mentor/mentee program for the month of March! An experienced author will take a new author under their wing. You'll work together to produce a piece of writing and post it to the wiki! Think it sounds dope? We do too!
Read on for more information!
WHO IS A MENTOR AND WHO IS A MENTEE?
For the purposes of this event, anyone who qualifies for an Author Page or has at least three surviving articles on the wiki rated +10 or higher is considered a mentor. SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONS MAY BE MADE.
Generally speaking, mentees are considered to be folks with 2 or less articles on the wiki with +9 or lower, but anyone who wants to sign up to be mentored can do so.
WHAT THIS IS AND ISN'T
FOR MENTORS:
This is an opportunity to help share the resources you as a veteran have built up on the wiki with a newcomer. Be they avenues for critique, general writing advice, or even sources of inspiration, this is your chance to help someone along their journey on our website. Though you don't necessarily have to take co-author credit on what you and the person you are paired with produce, the goal is to make something you are both proud of. I know we authors can have a bit of an ego at times, but the key here is to be kind. If your partner feels you are being unkind to them, you will be blacklisted from future Deer Events.
FOR MENTEES:
Ever wanted to write something for the SCP Wiki but been too afraid to do it or unsure of just how to go about it? This is your opportunity to get your foot in the door and finally write something! Remember, you get what you put in, so make sure to put your best foot forward! However, this is not a "write my article for me" event. You are both expected to put in more or less even amounts of work by the end of this. If your partner reports that you are not contributing meaningfully or are repeatedly leaving them to handle most of the work, you will be blacklisted from future Deer Events.
