Hi there! Welcome to my art gallery!

I'm Bea (Miss Lovecraft) and I've been an artist since 2020. I only draw traditional art, which is not as "boring" as it sounds! I work with a variety of traditional mediums, from graphite to watercolor, materializing my art on different kinds of paper and getting paint all over my hands. A bit poetic, don't you think?

Egg Structure Poster

Artist's Commentary

"The Breakdown of the Egg Structure" (now SCP-9006) is one of my favorite entries from the SCP-9000 Contest, and overall articles on the SCP Wiki. It's filled with cryptic bits, psychological horror, and themes not always easy to portray in fiction.

A siren.

It sits at this cave’s end, discarded with its massive eyes gone white and popped out of its skull.

This is my favorite section of the article. Its imagery, its context, and its raw portrayal of violence and profanation of life (especially a woman's life) really struck me. This poster is an approach to this scene. It's heavily inspired by John Everett Millais' Ophelia (1851-2), a very famous painting depicting the character Ophelia from Shakespeare's Hamlet, who dies drowned in a river.

There, on the pendant boughs her coronet weeds
Clamb'ring to hang, an envious sliver broke,
When down her weedy trophies and herself
Fell in the weeping brook. Her clothes spread wide
And mermaid-like, awhile they bore her up;

To me, this piece exhales impotence, torpor, a kind of melancholy wrapped around inertia, factors which led me to use it as a reference for this watercolor piece. I hoped to convey these same feelings on my adaptation for the poster.

Artist's Commentary

Just like Egg Structure albeit in a completely different way, DAYDREAM (SCP-9100) is one of my favorite SCP-9000 Contest entries, and overall articles on the SCP Wiki. It's a long, purposely monotone, sequence-based article which uses its structure to convey its message. Its characters are memorable and amazingly developed, and are reflections of the commentary in the article.

The TV static eye poster which appears when you search for this article on Crom was my main inspiration for this watercolor piece. I wished to remake it but with a special touch which would be a reference to a very specific part of the article.

Vo does not react. After a few minutes, Finlay looks over to Vo, and hesitates before patting her once on the back. He turns and leaves. A red handprint is visible on Vo's lab coat.

The blood smeared down the eyelid in this piece is a reference to this bit of the article. It's a very evocative bit and I found the contrast between the milky grayness of the eye and the redness of the blood pretty cool. The symbolism of killing the joy, whimsy, and overall imperfect and unpredictable aspects of our lives and attempt to smear its blood on our monotonous and intertia-filled daily prison to free ourselves just felt right to portray artistically.

l'Ortolan Poster

Artist's Commentary

I'm a sucker for prose among clinical tone, and this article (SCP-9630) hit all the right spots in that regard. A brilliantly written, gruesome article portrayed in the most graceful language; a paradox of an article with such a powerful message I had to sit in silence to absorb it after I read it.

I had no idea what l'Ortolan was nor that it was a real thing when I read the article. I thoroughly enjoyed the imagery and how l'Ortolan was used to portray the brutally hidden stories of victims of horrid abuse, as well as the cannibalistic, predatory, and self-sacrificial nature of the ballet industry. With this in mind, I pictured a piece which could represent elements inherent to the narrative (such as the formality surrounding the l'Ortolan tasting part, and the pearls coming out of Eloïse's skin) whilst making a reference to one of my favorite bits of Swan Lake, a ballet I love.

The Dying Swan culminates with the pose drawn on my piece. The position of the arms reminded me of Ortolan wing bones. The remaining feathers on Eloïse's arms are a portrayal of her violated youth, a reminder of how her suffering at the hands of men did not give her a chance to live a normal life. She is no different than the meal she was forced to taste.
