Video Transcript:
The SCP-9000 entry This Land Was Made For You and Me by Uncle Nicolini is a delve into the feelings of “The American Dream” as an immigrant. The core anomaly is a mind altering effect that causes people, specifically from home countries with lower economies, life expectancies, and education opportunities, to desire a better life in America. People affected by it will move to the US and hold a positive view of life here. But, the effect has been dying out.

I’m not going to explain the rest of the article because I want you to read it, but it has some very beautiful poems written by the main character that I’m glad I speak enough Spanish to read now. For this, I wanted to draw a cup of tea, a latte, and kind of red-white-and-blue-wash the cup that symbolizes a moment of realization. I struggled a little bit about how to draw the scene in the steam correctly, but I think I figured it out in the end.

I didn’t want to draw any of the characters directly, mostly because I wanted to preserve that feeling of… I guess detachment from identity as an individual? Throughout the story, the main character is repeatedly delegated to just being the “Immigrant from Cuba” in their workplace, even by so-called allies, and I thought it would be fitting to only have them in shadow.

I hope you enjoyed this, I’ll try to keep posting one of these each day. However, tomorrow’s is not going to be posted on TikTok. This is because it’s going to be an article by LORDXVNV called Space Expert. If you would like to see that one, Feel free to, um, go to my art page on the SCP wiki.
