Video Transcript:
The trench is one of my favorite SCP-9000 entries so far. I have a couple favorites that I’m not differentiating between, but this one is going to stick with me for an incredibly long time. Like before, I’m not going to explain the article to you, but I will say it’s a large prison run by the Foundation, that houses their D-Class personnel.

I knew right away I wanted to draw a child for this. Like halfway through reading this I paused, and started drawing the kid’s face. I also knew I wanted to give him a freeze cup, a red one, because red is, obviously, the best flavor. He probably picked it up for a couple cents from the candy lady’s house that his mom doesn’t like him going to because she’s a stranger but he does anyways. Probably with a jolly rancher at the bottom or a couple of maraschino cherries or pineapple slices floating at the top. But, he has to flip it over in the cup to eat it. You’ll look silly if you just try to lick it.

It’s a small comforting piece of summer in the neighborhood. I wanted this illustration to feel kind of comforting in a way. Not quite sunshine and rainbows, just kind of a piece of realistic childhood. At the same time, I wanted it to be confrontational. You can see I went back and forth on his expression a few times. I kept the palette on the darker side but still gave it a pretty wide range of colors so I could give the kid some rainbow chalk to draw on the pavement with while he plays on the steps.

I hope you enjoyed it again, like I said, I’ll be posting one of these each day. Tomorrow’s is going to be an article by Uncle Nicolini called This Land Was Made For You and Me. If you want context before seeing my next video, which I’d recommend, go ahead and read that article if you haven’t already and while you’re at it, read THIS article as well.
