Suzerain is a very interesting article. It’s about an anomaly that looks like a lioness, acts like a lioness, but isn’t one. Well, maybe? Its skin has traces of formaldehyde and it bleeds profusely when injured. This blood damages tissue. Kind of.
I had to draw it, of course. But I also wanted a lush, jungle scene. I know lions don’t really live in JUNGLES… but this isn’t a normal lion. I was going to add some more animals in the background but I eventually just decided on plants… I didn’t want to spoil much and I wanted to keep an interesting color palette.
As I read, especially near the end, I couldn’t stop thinking about this one song, Exxus by Glass Animals. Specifically the music video for it. The song is about the inescapability of death, but the music video is claymation with these vibrant colors under fluorescent lighting and people and animals turning to fungus and plants and sometimes other animals. It’s about how life comes from death. It’s a song with a much different vibe than the one the author linked, but it was what I thought of before I saw the song that was linked.
I wanted to do a color palette kind of like that, but also… one of those… um… those 70s stoner posters. Like, the felt posters. Which is why I kept the lines black this time. You know those. With wizards doing battle or mushrooms or weird forest scenes or whatever. I really like how this one turned out. It might be my favorite in the whole batch.
I hope you liked this drawing. Next I’ll be posting one about Treespeak by Raddagher. If you want context before seeing my next video, which I’d recommend, go ahead and read that article if you haven’t already and while you’re at it, read THIS article as well.
