Anybody who keeps up with this sort of thing will know of the "Tag-Free" SCP Challenge, and anybody who's tried to write it will know that it is now, essentially, impossible. There are too many tags, covering too many topics, from basic to obscure; writing something that doesn't fall into any of them (while I'm sure is still possible) has gone from challenging to downright painful. Therefore, I propose something new.
The Challenge:
Use the Tag Search 2.0 and the Tag Guide to come up with a combination of two attribute tags that haven't been used together before, then write something that uses them. This is something that can be done inadvertently, too, so you might find out one of your old ideas fits, that's fine! Write it, post here, and claim your fabulous prize!1 Alternatively, use the tag combination as inspiration, and create something completely new!
A few examples of unused two-tag combos to help you get started:
- bacteria & equine
- language & biohazard
- genetic & glass
- cadaver & sport
- magnetic & memetic
- mimetic & meteorological
- nocturnal & online
- clay & fungus
- furniture & hive-mind
- toxic & satellite
- sexual & spacetime
- timepiece & foundation-made
Hard Modes:
Entitle you to bragging rights, and a place in my heart forever.
- Set your SCP in an established canon, or as part of a series.
- Use two different unique-two-tag-combos. For example, "bacteria & equine" and "language & biohazard" — "bacteria & biohazard" does not need to be unique.
- Use a unique combination of two attribute tags, and a unique combination of GoI/character tags. For example, "bacteria & equine" and "nobody & zyn-kiryu".
- Fulfil any other challenge alongside this one. See here
Easy Modes:
Do not entitle you for anything, and may be used as evidence in court.
- Use a unique combo of three tags instead of two.
- Use a character, GoI, canon, or object class tag instead of an attribute tag.
- Use a tag combination that already has a single article fitting it.
- Start this challenge, realise the idea fits better if you don't fulfil it, and then post it with no unique tag combinations. This isn't really "easy mode", per se — this thread's about inspiration more than anything. I'll be a little disappointed, but I won't hold it against you.
Super Hard Mode:
- allison-eckhart
Happy writing!
