I thought I knew where this was going. I was wrong… very very wrong…
Take your +1, and your goddamn severance check.
The only gripe I have is that no foundation agent would ever write something like that to a regular civilian, even if that civilian had a close family member die working for the foundation. Other than that, everything this tries to do, it does well. +1
Welcome to my post history. Enjoy your stay.
My interpretation is that Agent Bradley knew the InfoSec filter would catch the message before it was sent, but wrote it anyway (reprimand be damned) out of respect for Mr. Jacob’s sacrifice.
That stings.
I do feel like the foundation would have more respectable cover stories. Lumber mill security guard died saving someone else from some machine, body mangled beyond recognition, closed casket etc..
Still

I don't see why the Foundation would have a missing person cover story for someone who was killed in action. The logical reaction to a family member going missing would be to start searching for them, which leads to people asking unwanted questions. The best lie is as close to the truth as possible, after all.
Other than that, this was pretty good.
The number of people that go missing (in the US at least) without any explanation and who are never found is surprisingly high.
The number of people currently engaged in litigation with companies that are even remotely associated with their loved one's death is, however, just as high as you'd suspect.
A missing persons cover story will lead to a police officer or two maybe coming around to ask a few questions. Anything else would tend to lead to depositions, official records, and possibly entire court cases. Not to mention questions as to the safety record of the front company.
God damn it. They can't even give family members some closure.

I'm kind of sure that I read somewhere that some family members could get a level-0 sort of clearance for things like this. But if not, it doesn't even reveal that much. Just remove monsters. And finally, in the end it's just another "Foundation = Organization = Bad."
