I… am having a hard time pinning down just how I feel about this article.
Like others, I can see the parrallels it seems to draw with 'contemporary art' in the real world. If one looks, they can find plenty of debate on the talent / skill / creative merits of certain artworks or art forms; if they deserve to be called "art"; ultimately on what even is our definition of art. I think it's an interesting question, without necessarily any one correct answer.
But I reckon it's that line of thinking, of those questions raised, that might be the best part of the concept. I'll second the notion that maybe a tale would let you explore the angles more expansively, and likely be more directly engaging to the reader.
Though, one could argue that if this piece incites such thought and deep reflection in its audience then it is indeed high art… Hmmm, think I'll take a little time and a re-read before voting.
