So, um, have at it.
I am disturbingly excited at this prospect.
So should we just edit ourselves in? First in takes first spot? Also, are we distinguishing between SCPs and Tales when we say "articles"?
Eskobar: Yeah, have at it.
The numerical ranks don't mean anything, unless somebody edits that page in such a way that they do. To me "article" is a set including the sets "SCP" and "Tale", but excluding, say, guide pages.
I got…
Hall of Fame, Prolific Scribbler, Straight, Straight Flush, and Bard.
Do I win?
There were winners for Brights challenge? I must have missed the announcing…
If you've written something for the Site that met with the criteria of one of Bright's Challenges, and it stuck, you won. (Unless there *are* more criteria now?)
Alright neat! I got six!
*covets Provocateur*
Hey, who put in "said article is rated at > +30?" … now I can't list the Reality-Bending Cat, which was the only "Double Cliche Challenge" article not to get deleted.
There need to be sprite-based medals for this. I need to dig through my sprite sheets now…
I'd edit myself in to this, but it just feels a tad…unfair. Not even really sure how many i qualify for…I know i have Hall of Fame, Prolific Scribbler, Flush, Straight Flush, and bard…not sure about the others.
I shouldn't be excited about this, as people could quickly go crazy with this…but damn do I love collecting things…
Tell me about it. I love achievements.
On that note, need to write a -J now and pick up my Straight…
No, do add yourself. Fairness is for mere mortals.
Gears, it's not like you haven't earned any achievement you could get. You're a damn good writer and have been writing with us for a long time. You deserve all of the credit. All of it.
We might just want to make the "COG Certificate" and give it to Gears. Then challenge everyone else on the site to try to match his achievements.
That'll be a fun decade…
Make up all the awards you like, as long as they aren't stupid.
fair enough…i try and be as humble and even-handed as I can…but it's nice to puff out your chest, once in a while…
And as Yoric is saying, if anyone on this site has earned the right to do so, it's you!
(Hint: Someone on this site sure as hell has earned the right to do so. :P )
I'd suggest one for going above and beyond with multimedia content (like audio or movies)
Now added my achivements…came just short of the keter/safe awards.
…does it say something that, despite having the most entries of anybody on the wiki, i still got the Certificate of Attendance?
Maybe that you're absurdly prolific and nobody really bats 1000?
I just missed the Safe, interestingly. If you count the articles I've rewritten as well as the ones where I'm the original author, I'd have it — but that doesn't seem quite fair.
Prolific Scribbler, Straight, Flush, Straight Flush, "I Clid, You Clid, We All Clid", Iron Man, Man of Steel, Battling Average Champion, and Teacher's Pet
Check my flow, oooh
EDIT: And "You Can Please Everyone" and Provocateur and Ex Man
Call me cynical if you must, but this all seems very self-congratulatory.
Well, yeah…but it's fun to be able to pimp your writing here a little, once in a while.
Plus, some of these lists serve as good guides for what to read if you want to see some of the better SCPs/authors.
It's also humbling to see how many folks here have written more/better stuff…
Also, some of these categories are interesting in their own right. I would not have guessed there were so many articles in some of them.
I find it amusing to no end that Yoric is now an EX Man.
Hey, baby, I'm all man. :P
I thought you were half man, half snake?
I would like to see whatever-this-evolves-into on the Main Page, perhaps near the "User Pages". It would give people who are relatively new to the site (as myself) an insight to the productive experience and expertise behind the mysterious names-in-charge, as well as achievable goals.
It would let new people know when someone has a lot of experience….
lots….
…
and lots of…
wow.
I believe I have a picture to edit…
Well.
So far, the attitude of most staff seems to be that this is a cool thing as long as we don't make it official on the main wiki.
The thing is, if we have an official list of awards for doing X, people will start doing the bare possible minimum to get those awards, rather than simply posting good writing based on real inspiration. We've found in the past that giving too much incentive to force out writing just leads to forced out (read: not very good) writing, seen? It's best for the quality of submissions that we keep the wiki geared toward posting what you want when you want, rather than working toward a series of arbitrary goals.
Now, if you want to set goals like that for yourself, more power to you. Personally, I've been waiting for a slot in the <100 grouping to open up for a good long while now, but people keep beating me to it. :P
As far as a way of seeing who might have a lot of experience… Well, there's a list of site staff on the guide to newbies; while we don't have a specific set of requirements for promotion to staff, everyone who's made it onto that list has been agreed by all the others to have been around long enough and contributed enough to the site to earn the slot. Generally, if you have questions or need advice, anyone on staff will be able to help.
Another way of finding who's been around a long time is to snoop through the member's pages and old forum threads; there's a lot of interesting reading there.
This. Yoric, i adore when you take off the asshat and show people that you actually are a insightful, intelligent human being/snake man.
This is fun, yes, but i agree that making it "official" in some what will encourage people to win awards and not necessarily commit to the stories as much. It's a neat diversion, and it's a blast to pimp work and crow a bit, but at the heart of things, it's just a fun little distraction.
That being said, I need to update my awards now…
