Now, I've only been on the site for a few days, but I had to get this out (if only to vent). I love reading the Discussion logs of SCPs to get insight into how they were made/fixed/adjusted, as well as seeing other people's reactions. It seemed that some people were rather quick to anger, though. Even if they didn't overtly yell "Get it through your thick skull, moron!", the tone was a little unreasonably harsh. Or so I thought.
After reading some really well-written SCPs, and then seeing some of the complaints voiced, along with reasons for downvoting, I am starting to see many of the regular posters' reasoning quite clearly. Without naming names, I'll give the example that really brought it into focus. SCP-1004. I read Bright's 001 proposal before reading this, so of course my view of 1004 is going to be colored a certain (blech) way. I tend to equate The Factory with just about the most negative things you can on this site (and I mean that in a good way). 1004 was a nice blend of creep, mystery, and Factory, well worth the upvote.
What I saw in the Discussion threw me a bit. I understand that people have their own opinions, and I am very new to the site, but even taking those factors into consideration, there were multiple posts from people that just didn't seem to get certain (or all) aspects of the SCP. When Bright eventually burst out with "That's the point!", I was right there.
Anyway. I'm not sure how to turn this into a productive thread, other than to say…does anyone else get this way? Does it get easier to take? I do my best to rein in my volatile nature, hopefully it'll be enough.
