This is actually rather clever. I like it.
A good Arcade SCP. I like.
I am curious though; Is it the Arcade Cabinet(screen included) or the Gamecart that would be the actual SCP? Or would both be needed together to produce said effects?
Well, seeing as the internal mechanisms are [DATA EXPUNGED], who's to say it even has a Gamecart?
I may be missing something but the deaths in the addendum seem a bit shoehorned in…?
I agree. I like this one so far but I think it needs a better topping than the standard mysterideath ending to flesh it out. Otherwise, I'm excited!
What about this?
Every time you make some transaction involving quarters, (after having played the game) you hear the game launching. Subsequently, you start hearing sounds indicating that you've lost a life, or cleared a stage. Listening carefully, you might find that other sounds from the game underlay real ones. The more quarters spent since playing, the easier it gets to make these sounds out, and the harder it gets to make out real ones. All game sounds end upon a game over (unless you got a continue with another transaction). Real sounds remain difficult to make out.
As long as it goes no farther than that — it doesn't directly drive you insane — I really like that idea.
Stay clear of quarters, kids.
AND THEN CRAZY TO DEATH!
Of which I thoroughly was rubbed the wrong way and downvoted.
Also:
The "Jungle" stage featuring [DATA EXPUNGED] as enemies.
Irks me to no end, this one. I bet it was ponies. Rainbow ponies.
not voting for now because i am clearly missing something. i honestly see nothing remotely anomalous about this. its an arcade game that has strange levels, and there are a string of deaths involving it. if anything its an anomalous item, can someone explain this to me?
About 30% of SCP-1881-B players report lasting psychological effects afterwards, in the form of nightmares related to its contents and occasional visual/auditory hallucinations (a common complaint is hearing sounds from the game when unaccompained and in quiet areas). One interviewed case, who had access to SCP-1881 before it was contained, reported his home videogame console would occasionally launch SCP-1881-B instead of whatever game was installed.
The anomalous effects do seem tacked on at the end. They are also not presented in a way to make me care much about them. The major effect is that some people have nightmares.
I think it could become a solid entry if the creepy factor was reworked and improved.
yeah, again people get nightmares about things they do, i have nightmares about my school, that doesn't make it an SCP. and as far as going crazy, that happens all the time to, there are people in REAL LIFE who think they are vampires, that does not make Twilight, Underworld or any other poorly written media and SCP
TL;DR : if nighmares and going insane made something an SCP, pretty much everything is an SCP
Yeah, I can't see how this counts at all either. It loaded on another console which would solidly qualify it for SCP status, but they have no verification of that and beyond that there's nothing more to this than a creepy game with lots of bugs.
That, and the one solidly anomalous thing about it (the deaths) seems tacked on and unrelated.
What game is that in the picture? is it Galaxian or Galaga?
Not Galaga. I'd lay odds to it being Terra Cresta.
I drew it myself. And apparently did a good job of it.
Hmm… I do think that the anomalous properties need to be somewhat more explicit. As it is, it could just be that those kids dying is completely coincidental to their intials appears on the high score. Perhaps if there was a note that a D-class tester died of natural causes before the 30-day window & his/her intials then appeared in the high score list. I like the effort put into this object; it's just that right now it's a glitchy game and that's it.
"quarters" should probably be "United States quarters"-at least in the first instance- for clarity.
