Yesterday I was trying to join the IRC #site19 channel. I have never used IRC before, so I had no idea how it worked. I have checked the SCP IRC guide and the chat guidelines, and done everything it's told me to do, but every time it says that I have joined #site19, I'm the only person on it? Am I not connecting right, or is it just that no one's on? Any help would be greatly appreciated!
I'm thinking that you either mistyped #site19 or connected improperly. If the little circle next to your name on the upper left is light green, you did it wrong.
It's not the misspelling thing, as I just tried it now. I can't see a green circle? I use mIRC, is there a better one?
Well, there should be a sidebar somewhere that lets you see who's in the chat. If next to your name is a light green dot, you're in the wrong chat room.
But you probably already know that. If you've gone through the right way to site 19, i dont know what else to tell you.
Are you connecting to the right network? The one #site19 in is SynIRC. you should have something like irc.synirc.net somewhere in your connection settings.
I type in irc://irc.synirc.net but then it says You are not on a channel. What does that mean, and is there anything I can do?
If you are using mIRC;
File —> Select Server —> Select synIRC —> Random server
Then connect. From there, you register a nick, do all that business to enable it, then "/j site19"
Also, make sure that you've registered your nick, or you can't get into the channel. To register do the following:
in the root channel (where you are, before you join a channel), first make sure you're using the nick that you want to register. for example, I'm registered under "Drewbear", but if I tried to verify my identity using a different ID, it wouldn't work. once you're in your preferred nick, type
/msg nickserv register [your email address] [your password]
it'll send you an email with instructions on how to verify the registration. once you've followed that, you can verify your identity by typing
/msg nickserv identify [your password]
if you did it correctly, it'll say that you've been identified, and then you can join the #site19 channel
If anyone wants it, I saved the in-frame chat applet before it was deleted. I use a stored copy of it for chatting, since I liked chatting that way.
They deleted it for a reason. I'm not sure of the reasons (you can ask Waxx or a chat admin) but I think it had something to with security.
