If you ask me, it probably wasn't part of his final wishes - they just wanted to make sure he was actually dead, or failing that, at least far enough away to not cause any more damage…

Obviously Clef's influence on the Foundation is greater than we thought. Even imagining how he might die causes a (theoretical) chain of events that ends in the sun going out.
