Description: Replace Karma with a rank system that reflects your function on the wiki. The system would be managed by administrators and would allow for the creation of custom ranks.

Reason: The karma system is quite useless and random, I think that a system that would allow to know what are the prerogatives of a person we talk to on the site (thanks to an icon for example) would be more useful.

Advantages: Know a user/staff member's function more clearly.

Disadvantages: For the moment I do not find any disadvantages.

We probably won't replace karma if only because I don't wanna hear the complaints. But the ability to add per-site titles/ranks is still viable anyway.

We have a Staff Identification userscript available, which shows users' staff ranks beneath their name on forum posts, so you can get the feature you want right now. But that's an ugly workaround and yes, we definitely want this to be built-in to PF.

I don't think we want to be able to have completely custom ranks - we don't want this to end up like a Minecraft server where everyone has a vanity rank. But a site will have full control over what ranks it creates, and it won't be limited to just Moderator and Admin like we are currently.

The issue WJ-132 calls for listing staff information in some official manner, similar to the Staff Identification userscript that Croquembouche mentioned. I agree some kind of staff rank specification outside of moderator/admin is also desirable.
