I have an SCP halloween display and I don't want to freak out neighbors, but I don't want to spoil the fun.

I have an SCP halloween display and I don't want to freak out neighbors, but I don't want to spoil the fun. The sign just says SCP Foundations with the symbol and I am planning contained creatures including an animated eyeball in the front door, and an elaborate socially-distance candy distribution tube.

So how would you recommend I inform meek parents who ask what SCP is but I'll have a respirator on and don't feel like breaking character. I though of just handing out a card that said SCP Foundation Secure. Contain Protect. with Happy halloween on the back, but SHOULD I provide a LINK or is that not recommended for muggles? Or do you think silence is the best communicator?

Freaking people out is quite amusing though. It’s not like anyone is gonna call the cops on you if you do it during Halloween. Though, I don’t see any reason to put a link on a piece of paper, as any parent sufficiently freaked out over it should be capable of doing a google search to find out what an SCP is, and doing so would lead them to the SCP wiki.

It’s not like anyone is gonna call the cops on you if you do it during Halloween.

If news articles and social media posts are anything to go by, people call the cops for Halloween decorations pretty often.

I'm…not entirely sure what this is all about but, uh. If you're really worried about people getting it, just say "it's an online creative writing project dedicated to horror."

I'm going to ask a community outreach staff member to take a look at this, but as a general note, if parents are very concerned about their children encountering the display, it's likely that their kids are too young to be reading the site due to the mature content in some of the pages.

Personally I recommend saying something like "it's a reference to an online sci-fi-horror writing project" and leaving it at that.
