Elevator Pitch: As Arcadia is losing money and going bankrupt Arcadia try’s to salvage its brand and company they experiment with the home market. A gaming machine that makes you perceive the world around you as the game. Looking down hallways could be the hallways in Pac-Man. They release 12 games ( most have not been discovered) before they cancel the project. This leads to the discovery of the prototype by the SCP foundation

Central Narrative:: as Arcadia is going under they try to reinvigorate there business with the “World Builder” an advanced gaming console that makes your house the gaming area. As they documents tests, they discover that making these is too expensive and with the crumbling financial structure they have to cancel eh project near completion. This then leads them to try and sell the unfinished prototype. It eventually comes to the knowledge of the SCP foundation and with one test they find out it works.
What the Gaming console does:It generates gaming terrain in your house. The gaming enemies and world can interact with you. (Example: getting shot in a shooter). The Games are completely custom made by Arcadia. The foundation only holds some games and some test logs from the making of the object. When Arcadia made this there was 12 games tested and made. The following is all the games made: Run(horror),Fairiest(fantasy), 1!2! Hit(boxing game), Blast off(an arcade shot em up, Catch the Killer (a quest the murderer game), and so much more. I will be adding more games when in draft stage.

Hook/Attention-Grabber: Everyone wishes they were in the game, and have it an scp that does exactly that sounds like a dream come true.

Additional Notes: The main focus is the tests as I feel I can write that part really well. I also think that the scp description and containment procedures being shorter will allow the reader to get to the good part of the article. Important there will be one game tested by the foundation, and 3 test logs of games tested by Arcadia. As the Arcadia test logs have been lost and some games are still being looked for. Test logs the foundation own are Games tested by Arcadia are (Run(horror), 1!2! Hit(boxing game), Blast off(an arcade shot em up)

Important if you review this please give ideas and suggestions for the article, instead of saying “it’s bad” give me real feedback.

+ Roses and Thorns

The primary rose of your proposed idea is that it is very relatable and accessible. I think a lot of people would enjoy reading it and you would enjoy writing it! However, because it is so relatable and accessible, you may face some heavy scrutiny from the community and other authors. Because the games' designs are taken care of for you, you will be placed under heavy pressure to make sure that you are adding interesting exploration of the idea beyond just having a log of games in real life. This brings me to the thorns:

Thorn 1:

I want there to be a minimum of 10 testing logs each one focusing on a different style of game. These styles will be the following: First Person Shooter, platformers, horror, old games(think Pac-Man or Atari), adventure, simulators, rpgs, dating sims(this I think will be a more comical one), education games, and finally survival style games.

10 test logs is a lot to read for this simple device. I can understand why you would want to have so many explorations of different mediums because they all have different potential for storytelling. I think that would be cool! But what, from the perspective of the Foundation, keeps them doing so many tests? And even more curious, why would they even try first-person shooters, horror, survival, dating sims, etc. as tests? That sounds like an unnecessary risk for the Foundation to take if they can die in the game. I want to know more about what drives this many explorations and tests and what keeps them testing beyond just plugging in pac-man, jotting down some notes, and then tossing the thing into a box.

Thorn 2:

For the game to end it need the user to 1. Die or 2 beat the game.

What about games where neither happens (Candy crush, pokemon, etc.)? I also want more information about what happens when they are in the game. Do they feel pain? Do they act as main character or npc? etc. Just need more information on the actual anomalous aspects before I can give more feedback

Check out this guide on interesting things and I recommend reading SCP-2786 or SCP-1230 to see how other authors have explored the idea of published stories done in a unique/anomalous way.

Sounds good! No need to get complicated!

Elevator Pitch: remember wanting to play the game in real life? Imagine playing Pac-Man where the game area is your house. Or other popular games (insert call of duty joke here). You have to beat the game in your house where your house is the game map. Now you're in the game!

Just some advice, rather than approaching the elevator pitch as an advertisement I recommend using this spot as a short summary of what a reader can expect from reading your article.

I appreciate you reducing the number of test logs, focusing in on the 3 specific genres, and providing a reason behind why they might test different games. What I am still wondering is why these games? Why would the Foundation choose to test with horror and survival games instead of like Mario 64, the SIMs, or a homebrew made by Foundation researchers? I understand that from a writing perspective a horror or survival game would be the most interesting, but in an SCP article you need to convince me that the Foundation researchers would actually do this. From a research perspective, what would these genres gain beyond plugging in a horror game and just going "huh. he died. just like we expected."?

The games can interact with the player these interactions are only visible to the player and outside observers are unable to see the digital environment

This sounds like a big improvement and makes me more interested in it as a psychological anomaly that also has physical consequences to the person who is being impacted.

I can see the growth and it is definitely improving! I like your idea from a narrative perspective but it still needs to grow into being right for the wiki and SCP format. Think about this object and how researchers would interact with it. What would make sense and tell more about the object.

If I can give some advice now that I have read your proposal a few times: Test logs come with a lot of baggage of why. Have you considered found documents from before discovery or some other way to justify the games chosen?

Thanks this was some great advice and I appreciate all the helpful feedback! In particular I like one of your ideas the most.

I love this suggestion and I feel that it solves a lot of lose threads. I could make it so it designed and tested by a group of interest (Either Wondertainment, or Arcadia) that solves why it was created and why it was tested. I appreciate suggestion, and will definitely strive to make it more easier to justify test logs.

Honestly, I don't find this very interesting. Your idea can essentially be summed up as "Virtual Reality, but real." It's an idea that you can find almost anywhere in video game based media, from Spy Kids 3 to Jumanji. As a very common idea, you'll have to find a very good angle on the premise to make it seem distinct enough from what came before. Unfortunately, this idea seems like it's being played rather straight.

I'm afraid I'll have to pass on greenlighting this, barring some big changes.

Alright, here’s my take.

You’ve run into a very common issue for new authors here in that you seem to have mistaken backstory for narrative. As nice as backstory can be to have, without some way of telling it and some way of connecting it to the Foundation, I can’t see a way that it would find itself into your actual article. The narrative should, in fact, be what actually happens in your article. What will actually make up the paragraphs and sections of the final product?

As for the anomaly itself, it doesn’t strike me as the most original thing on the site, but that’s alright. After a decade, most base concepts have been done to death on this wiki. The narrative is where things really prove their uniqueness.

I appreciate you reviewing my SCP idea, however it was unhelpful. What I got from your comment was Many new SCP writers need narrative. There was no critique that genuinely helped my thought process or improve my SCP. It needs narrative, ok what do you suggest. I really liked Pedagon’s critique as it improved my article and added a much need “narrative for new authors”. Ok it needs a narrative, what do you suggest. If you don’t like my idea just say it isn’t for you. That I would accept over “new authors struggle with narrative”. I appreciate your time, however I don’t like this critique
